Vol. 39 is an upscale bar and cocktail lounge in Chicago’s Loop where friendly faces serve classic drinks like Old Fashioneds and Expresso Martinis. We really loved the bar and the bartenders and servers. They gave us an amazing experience and the drinks were fantastic! The hostess was a little rude and off putting and we heard other patrons mention that as well. She was rude both evenings to our party and it didn’t feel very welcoming. We’re grateful the rest of the staff did not have that vibe and were able to make up for it.

Drinks were great! Extensive menu for cocktails and just about any spirit you can imagine is there as well as an extensive wine menu. Cool vibe on 2nd floor of hotel.

We went Vol .39 on a Friday night about 9 pm. We missed the office crowd which was great. I had a corner table overlooking the street and it was perfect. My wife and I flew into Chicago and got to the hotel just in time to make it to the bar. I had an amazing Negroni and the wife had a cava from the Penedes region in Spain which is always great. Oysters took a while which means they shucked them to order. The Pink Moon’s from PEI were the perfect temperature, sweetness and brininess. We also ordered the charcuterie board and beet salad. We’ll be back next time.

I love this place. The ambience and cocktails are incredible. Service seemed irritated that we were there or that he was there, but either way was not great.

Samantha was a fabulous maître d’ who made my first anniversary with my boyfriend so wonderful! This is actually where we had our first date and came back for our anniversary, and Sam took that and ran with it. 10/10
