Vespaio Restaurant is one of the original South Congress eateries and remains one of Austin's favorite Italian go-to's among locals and visitors. This casual dinner venue is a popular choice for date nights or evenings out with friends, seating every day at 5pm. The interior of Vespaio Restaurant is decorated with ceiling tiles, ceiling plans, vintage pendant lighting, classic table seating, a plethora of wine racks and vibrant accent walls.In addition to a full bar menu, Vespaio Restaurant offers a lengthy selection of mouth-watering and flavorful authentic Italian dishes. Menu items include carpaccio, mixed seafood stew, lasagna, mussels, calamari, spaghetti carbonara, chocolate hazelnut cake, panna cotta and green pasta with shrimp. Everything on the menu is sourced locally and prepared in-house, including the pasta, bread and pastries.

The food is amongst the best available in Austin. Not just one or two dishes. ANYTHING they have on the menu. Our waiter, Sam, was amazing. Personable attentive and expert on the food and wine choices. Many place in Austin are pricey without the quality to back it up, Vespaios isn’t one of those.

We are long-time Austin residents and dine at Vespaio 3-5 times per year. Always a good experience across the board (food, service, ambience). The salads and entrees - no dessert this evening - were all quite tasty. My wife and I wish Vespaio would offer 2-3 lighter, healthier entrees because most of the dishes are on the rich side. We wish their appetizers (cheese board?) were also a little lighter as well. I ordered the mussels this evening and hoped the tomato broth would be lighter. I generally prefer mussels in a fennel, white wine sauce and found the tomato broth to be too acidic and harsh for those delicate bivalves. These are areas of suggestion for a restaurant that we truly enjoy and value.

We’ve been twice. Food has been amazing both times. Service was outstanding the first time. However, on our second visit, we had a waiter who quite literally knew nothing and sat at a bad table (every restaurant has at least one, is what it is). In all, we were good sports about it. Just laughed off this second visit. Probably won’t go back which is sad because the first visit was so fantastic, it’s why we booked our anniversary here! I’ll just say the waiters lack of knowledge was astonishing lol, and his personality didn’t make up for it. But he tried to fake it like he knew his stuff. We just had to laugh. Too many moments to put in this review. The funniest thing was my wife asked if there were protein options to add to the pasta. She thought maybe some chicken or something. He said the only option would be sausage. But he couldn’t tell us anything about the sausage. What kind of sausage? What flavor? Is it spicy? Is I pork? Who knows. But my wife was just like “ok sure yeah I guess the sausage”. So the pasta comes eventually and one single, tiny, .5 oz, sausage link is on the pasta. We tried not to burst out laughing when the food arrived. I mean it looked ridiculous. Still tipped 25%. I mean it was entertaining.

We did not enjoy our meal. The Carbonara was LOADED with garlic actually inedible.

We’ve been coming to Vespaio for years and the food and service has been consistently exceptional. During our visit, the manager (Richard) was very attentive and welcoming.

Great food and awesome service. The ambiance was great, the only thing was it was a little chilly where were we sitting but not terrible. I highly recommend Vespaio!

Thank you so much for making our 9 year anniversary so special!! From the card to the bubbles and the amazing chef’s Friday eve specials…it was perfect! Destiny was our server and she was fantastic! Gave us great recommendations on wine and food and even though it was busy due to F1 weekend, we felt like we were her priority. Thanks again! Best, Cynthia and Clay
