Vernick Fish presents Philadelphia’s own, Chef Greg Vernick’s exploration beyond the boundaries of a seafood restaurant. His ingredient-driven cooking style, paired with a love for global flavors, results in an inventive menu of fish and shellfish dishes, and a range of vegetable preparations.     A fresh take on holiday traditions, Vernick Fish will be hosting a "Feast of the Seven Fishes" inspired prix-fixe menu on December 23rd and 24th. Created by Chef's Greg Vernick and David Paterniti, a five course menu will be served family-style and will feature highlights such as live scallop crudo with blood orange & grilled fresno chili, brandade croquette with ossetra caviar, and a whole roasted turbot with brown butter, salt baked celery root, & white truffle. Reservations can be cancelled up to seven days in advance. Cancellations under four days will incur a $75 charge per guest. Certain dietary restrictions can be accommodated with advance notice only. Please contact the restaurant prior to your reservation for approval.

    Amazing food and very cool atmosphere. Would have gotten a 5 star rating but our primary server did not provide service to bring it to the next level at a restaurant where you expect such service. She was adequate at best, but demeanor was sullen and detached for visits to the table despite our being polite to her in every response. That said, would go back again as the food was terrific.

    Everything was absolutely delicious! I have celiac and they were able to accommodate, and even had gluten free rolls.

    The cocktails and food were incredible. We enjoyed absolutely everything. Erica was our server and guided us through the menu. We would return over and over again!

    Great meal and experience. Had the shrimp salad and octopus apps. Both excellent. I loved the spiciness of the octopus. We split the turbot for two filleted tableside which was great too. Dessert was the chocolate banana pie that was very different than what might expect but really good. Only complaint is the price of wine by the glass. I paid $18 for a glass of Santa Tresa that is available for about $13 per bottle.

    First time dining here. It was my birthday week and we loved this place from the moment we walked in. It is beautiful in the design, love the open kitchen too. The ambient temperature was a little chilly, but once we had our delicious and well prepared cocktails everything was wonderful. Highlights for us were endive & baby gem salad (a visually beautiful and equally delicious salad with a very special, often underused herb-fresh tarragon which made it divine. The yellowfin tuna tartare was magical (how do they make those tiny potato chips and that jammy egg yolk??) We also had the sea scallops a la plancha and the grilled black sea bass and both were excellent! Worth noting, they were some of the best scallops I’ve ever had and they were cooked to perfection. W we decided to forgo dessert, but received a complementary treat of two tiny chocolatey crispy, salty buttery shortbread cookies that were amazing. The service was fabulous and I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

    Beautiful restaurant. Food was good, but nothing a “wow.” Nothing complicated. Service is good but impersonal, like the restaurant vibe. After adding a 22% tip to the tab, I saw on my receipt that I had also paid a 22% service charge. WTF. At this restaurant the experience is the decor and ambience.

    It had been a while since we had been to Vernick fish and after the other night my wife and I said to each other we should not wait so long before returning. The meal and the service were both exquisite. Between us we had two appetizers, two mains and two desserts. All but one seemed reasonably priced for the quality of the food. The only one which seemed dear, but which also tasted great was a single scallop [raw] sliced into three thin layers, topped with a delicious sauce, crispy circle of potato and a dollop of caviar. At $70 that seemed a little much. The other appetizer of lobster with squid ink pasta was delicious with bread crumbs offering a tactile sensation in your mouth. Sea bass with a beurre blanc sauce melted in your mouth and the Swordfish katsu [sort of like a la Milanese, a breaded cutlet] was also delicious. The thin carrot spikes [like toothpicks] and the similarly cut green scallions added a delicious mouth feel to the sushi rice that went excellently with the sauce on the fish. Our server was very attentive and when we first got there there the noise level was low making it easy to have a conversation. Definitely somewhere to go again and next time we should not wait for a special occasion.
