Vernick Fish presents Philadelphia’s own, Chef Greg Vernick’s exploration beyond the boundaries of a seafood restaurant. His ingredient-driven cooking style, paired with a love for global flavors, results in an inventive menu of fish and shellfish dishes, and a range of vegetable preparations. Taking a detailed, seasonal, and sustainable approach with small and large plate offerings, the kitchen brings new life to the favorite hallmarks of American oyster bar fare and raw bar. Our waiter was excellent: informative, attentive, and friendly. The appetizers were very good. My meal was excellent prepared, though I am not sure the poach halibut was a great choice for me personally, as it was a bit bland and didn’t quite suit my taste. The Salmon or Bronzino would have been the way to go for me. The drinks are on the pricier side, but admittedly it has been a while since my wife and I dined in the city and the overhead costs of doing business have all gone up significantly.

There is not one bad item on this menu. The chef has perfectly curated the most well balanced menu I have ever had. Don’t let the price tag food you, every bite is an experience and will leave you wanting to try every single item on the menu. Standout was all the crudo and the octopus and the crab pasta, and the halibut and the sea bass and THE WHOLE MENU. We love vernick fish and will continue to frequent this place.

Amazing restaurant at all aspects. Quality of food is at the highest level, interesting and well prepared. Service is efficient, helpful and friendly. Truly a memorable evening in one of the best restaurants in town

As always this restaurant has great food, atmosphere and ambience. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, hospitable and warm. Always is a great joy. It is a great restaurant. Every time I come to Philadelphia I dine at this restaurant. I strongly recommend to everyone who loves fine dining.

Fantastic drinks all around, from wine selection , including by the glass, to very well made cocktails. Nice vibe, overall more casual than dressy, but you are still within the Four Seasons. Music was a bit loud and uncharacteristic of the atmosphere. I'd change it to be honest, to be more lounge like/upscale. The music sounded like they simply put the radio on. Food: In general, the chef has heavy hand with the salt. This did not work for some of the dishes. We had multiple seafood/fish appetizers and entrees. While most everything was well cooked, flavor profiles were off. The crab cake appetizer was shredded crab, and when cooking this type of crabmeat you have to be very careful not to use high temperatures or over sear, otherwise you get a very fishy taste with little sweetness left. This app was not cooked properly and salt concentration came out in place of the sweetness of the crab. The staff quickly remedied the situation properly for us. The crispy shrimp appetizer was better, thought heat in the sauce overwhelmed the fresh shrimp. They used smaller shrimp on this dish, as a side note. The Halibut is steamed with little to no flavor because the fish was not seasoned at all. Relying on the sauce was a bad choice because it was salty and cool to the temperature. Perhaps it was sitting a bit? Accompanying clams were also front and center fish--with not much other flavors. I'd highly suggest a fish restaurant of this caliber sear the halibut. The whole branzino was a hit, with good flavor and it was expertly cooked. Again though, the side sauce and accompaniments were cool/cold. I believe they were meant to be this time, but it just doesn't make sense. Deserts were fantastic, some of the best strawberry shortcake and homemade ice cream we have had. Salt water taffy with the check was a great little detail. Waitstaff attentive but not obtrusive. Management in sync with the wait staff. Worth a visit, but the chef seems 2nd tier.
