Based on past performance, I'd say this place should get an easy five star rating, but things were a little off this time. Problem was that we ordered our steaks medium-rare, and got medium well. Never had that happen here before. Everything else, the rest of the food, drinks, and service was great, so hopefully this was just an off night.

We dined with friends last night at Venus Spirits and Cocktails. They were participating in Restaurant Week Santa Cruz and the Prix Fixe menu offered delicious options for starter, entree and dessert courses. Our server was friendly and accommodating. Some of the plates however were mixed up so there was a bit of the wait while they sorted it out but that was a minor inconvenience. Overall we had a lovely meal and enjoyed ourselves greatly. We've talked about trying the restaurant a second time in the near future to sample some of the dishes on the regular menu as well.

Service was so slow! The food was good. Shrimp and grits was a highlight, but a some of the other dishes, like the kale salad, I could have made at home. And other elements, like the potatoes roasted in duck fat, weren’t fully realized, perhaps because the kitchen was so far in the weeds.

Everything was great. The food however took a very long to arrive to the table. Kitchen was backed up. Aside from waiting everything was great. Server was attentive, food was great when it finally arrived, and drinks were tasty.

Went for restaurant week so it was busy, but the host was accommodating we didn’t wait too long to be seated. Once seated we waited over 30 minutes to order. When the food came out it was warm like it had been sitting for a while.

Excellent all around-- DELICIOUS food and not too expensive. Great warm outdoor seating, really great and timely service. The menu is innovative yet accessible. Super enjoyed out girls night out here!

Waited 25 mins for a beer, asked twice, when it turned up it was the wrong one. Had to walk over to the bar to change it. Asked for mayonnaise, twice when it turned up it was ioly.

We have been coming to Venus since it opened. We love enjoying elevated drinks and dinner in our neighborhood! This week we happened to dine at Venus 2 nights! Drinks and service were excellent! The staff is awesome and the drinks yummy and unique. I was disappointed that the cornbread was hard as a brick versus its original moist fluffiness! The bacon jam was crusty and “meh” vs scrumptious and addictive . Let’s please revisit original recipe for these two favorites 🙏 A loyal customer.

I’ve been to Venus quite a few times and have always felt like it was good, not great. I like their spirits and think they’re worth it but the food is expensive and good but could be better. They have some gems like the crispy Brussels sprouts, although last night they did not hit the mark like they usually do. And they have other things like the mole ribs which are just fine. I think it’s a great place for drinks and small bites but maybe not a full meal.
