We recently dined at Vela to celebrate my friend’s birthday, choosing it because of its Michelin Guide recommendation. The service was excellent—our servers were attentive, frequently changing our plates and ensuring the table was clean. However, the food left much to be desired, especially considering the price point. For a group of six, our bill came to $1,000, yet none of us left feeling satisfied or full. The portions were surprisingly small. While the octopus and eggplant dish stood out as the tastiest, it wasn’t remarkable enough to make us want to return, especially since we've had better in the city. The beef tartare was dry and under-seasoned, and the scallops were sliced so thinly they barely made an impact. The pasta and vegetables could use a bit more cooking, an extra 10 seconds would make a difference One major letdown was the bread—only four pieces for the entire group, and we had to pay around $6 per couple for them. But the worst part was the mocktail. For $16, I expected more than a glass filled with ice. There was so much ice that when we tried to stir the drink, it spilled over, creating a mess. I’ve eaten outdoors many times, but I’ve never encountered a drink packed with that much ice, especially in a glass that wasn’t even tall. Overall, we were disappointed. The service was great, but the food and drink didn’t justify the price or leave a lasting impression.

Main course took about 3 hours …. Very loud in there, had to yell to talk, crowded (chairs were against each other) it’s a nice place but It’s not worth the money.

It was a Friday night so that might have been the reason why there was a live singer. It was very loud even at the bar where I couldn’t hear any of the staff or my friend sitting beside me. When asked about the noise was told it was part of the experience

We went on a Wednesday evening with our friends for dinner and the food was amazing. We ordered all 3 pastas, steak, sides, and lamb chops. Everything was amazing, especially the mushroom pasta. The lamb chops were okay, but still good. Will certainly go back again!

I really appreciate that everything on the menu is gluten free as well as the kitchen’s willingness to accommodate dairy free requests. Usually service is pretty good at Vela, but last night we had a distracted server who didn’t ask once if we wanted to order more drinks. She just kept refilling our water and running away. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. Also our booth was directly facing a couple who were practically on top of each other the entire time which was really uncomfortable. This experience was a one off, however. I usually really enjoy dining at Vela
