Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

    Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

    Adejoké Bakare will be serving dishes from her Michelin-starred modern West African restaurant, Chishuru in London. Growing up in Nigeria, Adejoké’s menu will take inspiration from the food of her childhood, working with the team at Updown to bring her unique flavours to Updown. Maitake mushroom, tomato & shitto tartlet Rainbow beetroot, kohlrabi and chicory with a sunflower seed, ehuru & uda butter Cassava, salsify, smoked mackerel and uziza oil served with hot water Mutton ayamase with ginger rice, pickles, mizuna salad Tigernut & coconut crumble, coconut ice-cream, compressed watermelon, spiced date paper All dining is for communal tables and everyone will be served together, with guests invited to sit from 7pm.

    Great atmosphere and environment for Sunday lunch. Splendid roasts preceded by adventurous starters and followed by some old favourites for pud.

    Beautiful venue. Quality of food was outstanding as was the service. Noise level was a little high (high pitched children) due to the acoustics. Definitely geared more towards the London budget but worth it for a special occasion.

    Guest chef was excellent. Addressing the room before service to give his audience we some background of his experience and talking us through the evening’s offerings. The service was slick and professional while happily not being too formal. The food was every bit as good as it promised to be and the wine pairing was pretty good too. Whilst not the cheapest of evenings out, we felt the meal and the experience were worth every penny.

    It was an outstanding menu delivered b Seahorse from Dartmouth and wonderfully hosted by Updown. Perhaps charging for so much coffee was unnecessary as practical criticism. A small coffee on the house would have led to a bigger tip. Thanks for wonderful evening. The food was delicious!!!

    An excellent lunch as usual. It is the perfect place for a relaxing Sunday lunch. Although, this was the first time we felt a little rushed but they did have a large party in the barn to cater for, so they can be excused. I am particularly impressed by the various starters that have an imaginary twist every time we visit. My wife had the Mackerel, which she said was delicious. My Pork was ok but perhaps because of numbers was just a thickish slice of pork and not cut off the bone as expected. Dessert was delicious, Pannacotta was accompanied by some grappa, which is lethal if driving. My wife says the Rum Bubba could have had a drop more rum ! But we'll be back Many thanks to all the team

    Exquisite food. Wine list not very exciting. Noise better if you sit nearer the kitchen. Ambience beautiful but found it chilly when we went later in the year (end of October).

    Chef Henry Harris created a wonderful Lyonnaise Sunday lunch full of gorgeous Bouchon Racine flavours and textures. How lovely to spend a very rainy afternoon in the warmth of this delightful man and his food, we felt very lucky to be there!
