Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

Enjoy the best roast chicken around every Thursday night at Updown, in our beautiful dining room set amid rambling grounds. Max Rocha will celebrate the launch of his new book by bringing a taste of Café Cecilia to Deal. This beloved neighbourhood-style bistro has been a hit since the day it opened and we’re thrilled to have Max joining us in the kitchen at Updown. Serving up seasonally inspired dishes using local Kent produce, Max has written a menu that brings bold flavours and rustic charm. The menu: Sage and anchovy fritti Guinness bread and Updown focaccia Crown Prince, Gracebyrne and black olive Confit lamb belly , dandelion and anchovy salad Mussels, datterini and aioli on toast Florentina steak, confit potatoes and peppercorn sauce and green salad Deep fried bread and butter pudding and cold custard

Great venue for the excellent Sunday roast lunch , with a few Italian style twists for starters and veggie option. Lovely environment even on a wet autumn day- and even better when sunny!

Despite getting rave reviews this place was a huge disappointment The starters were lukewarm and gluttonous. The main course (all 4 of us had the lamb) was plonked on the table and were left to serve ourselves. 5 pieces of lamb for 4 people, loads of potatoes but scanty vegetables. Mint sauce so diluted it had the consistency of tea. Then for dessert we had the option of bread and butter pudding or cheese and the bread and butter pudding was lukewarm and gluttonous I cannot understand where these wonderful reviews have come from

We really enjoy eating here. Busy, yet service always good and attentive. Relaxed atmosphere. Delicious food. Would have liked a second choice of dessert, perhaps a hot seasonal option, especially for Sunday lunch.

Great atmosphere and environment for Sunday lunch. Splendid roasts preceded by adventurous starters and followed by some old favourites for pud.

Beautiful venue. Quality of food was outstanding as was the service. Noise level was a little high (high pitched children) due to the acoustics. Definitely geared more towards the London budget but worth it for a special occasion.

Guest chef was excellent. Addressing the room before service to give his audience we some background of his experience and talking us through the evening’s offerings. The service was slick and professional while happily not being too formal. The food was every bit as good as it promised to be and the wine pairing was pretty good too. Whilst not the cheapest of evenings out, we felt the meal and the experience were worth every penny.

It was an outstanding menu delivered b Seahorse from Dartmouth and wonderfully hosted by Updown. Perhaps charging for so much coffee was unnecessary as practical criticism. A small coffee on the house would have led to a bigger tip. Thanks for wonderful evening. The food was delicious!!!
