Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

    Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

    For the first time, Updown's stunning garden restaurant and terrace will be open to enjoy 7 days a week this Summer. On Monday and Tuesday evenings in July and August we're offering a beautifully simple seasonal set menu for £40 for three courses. Sample menu: Braised Courgettes with Burrata, Chilli, Mint & Bruschetta - Pork Chop with Borlotti Beans, Tomatoes & Sage - Vanilla Pannacotta with raspberries & Grappa We're always happy to accommodate dietary requirements when notified in advance.

    Enjoy the best roast chicken around every Thursday night at Updown, in our beautiful dining room set amid rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines and watch the chefs in the open kitchen cooking whole roast chickens in our huge wood oven. The three course menu always has a seasonal starter, roast chicken to share, and a dessert option, for £30. Here's a sample menu: Asparagus Soup with Poached Egg & Pancetta - Whole Roast Chicken to Share with Wild Garlic, Gratin Dauphinois & Green Salad - Chocolate Torte with Creme Fraiche £30 pp Our a la carte menu is also available every Thursday for other main course options.

    Another lovely summer’s evening of delicious food in a gorgeous setting. My daughter described it as the best meal she’d ever eaten (the aubergine and caponata!! ❤️..) And lovely friendly service too. Thank you all.

    We didn’t realise that being a dog friendly hotel/restaurant would mean quite so many canine companions. If we went again we would ask for a table which was in a canine free zone. The service was excellent and the quality of food also excellent, the ambience is lovely but as it got busier it was a bit noisy for my hearing loss and I couldn’t hear my wife. The overall environment is lovely, would I go again - maybe, but I am not sure it was worth £80 per head.

    Another incredible meal, the two fish dishes and the ravioli were all outstanding. Perfect service as always and fabulous cocktails! Can't wait for our next visit!

    It was a Tuesday evening and expectantly it was not very busy. That said the food was amazing, probably the best pork I've eaten, ever. The service was excellent, I had only a slight observation which was I felt the wine menu was a little limited.

    Updown is one of our go to places when we want consistent good quality food. Favourite haunt to meet our friends because the vibe is relaxed and staff are welcoming. We went to Chicken Night. Not sure what to expect but they have taken chicken dinners to a whole new level. Each of the 3 courses was delicious. Light fresh salad for starter, amazing chicken so tender and delectable and chocolate tart to die for. Updown never disappoints. Thank you, Oli, Ruth and team!

    Excellent roast dinner, very good flavour and all parts were cooked great. Starter and dessert also great, for a great price as well. We had our dog with us and their team were really great letting us pick a table tucked away in a corner. Service was great, very friendly and attentive. Best Sunday lunch I’ve had out in a while

    The setting is gorgeous; and the food is wonderful. Every single member of staff was incredibly friendly and professional and went out of their way to make sure diners had the best experience. Huge thanks to the team - including the gardener who had to give me a lift back to the station when there were no taxis! A very special experience and I hope to be back soon (with a return taxi pre-booked!) The 3 course set menu at £40 is also exceptional value for money. Probably the best Sunday roast I have ever had at a restaurant.
