Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

Henry Harris of much-loved, Bouchon Racine in Farringdon makes a return visit to Updown this September. Henry has created a menu that honours the traditional bouchons of Lyon, spotlighting seasonal produce from the local area to create dishes reminiscent of his critically acclaimed restaurant. The menu: Pâté de foie de volaille, Jesus de Lyon, caviar de la croix rousse Smoked eel, bacon and frisée salad, horseradish Poulet Basquaise rôti, saucisson Lyonnaise pistaché, haricots blancs paysannes Prune and almond tart, crème fraîche All dining is for communal tables and everyone will be served together, with guests invited for drinks from 12pm and lunch served at 1pm. Tickets are £65 per person including an arrival drink.

Enjoy the best roast chicken around every Thursday night at Updown, in our beautiful dining room set amid rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines and watch the chefs in the open kitchen cooking whole roast chickens in our huge wood oven. The three course menu always has a seasonal starter, roast chicken to share, and a dessert option, for £30. Here's a sample menu: Asparagus Soup with Poached Egg & Pancetta - Whole Roast Chicken to Share with Wild Garlic, Gratin Dauphinois & Green Salad - Chocolate Torte with Creme Fraiche £30 pp Our a la carte menu is also available every Thursday for other main course options.

We thought it was a lovely place, everyone was so nice and helpful. Lovely ambience to enjoy with delicious food. We would definitely recommend Updown.

Our waitress who welcomed us wished us a happy anniversary and brought us a glass of complimentary fizz. Beautiful setting, environment, delicious food and wine. The steak night was so worth the visit. Our waitress was so welcoming and friendly, giving excellent advice on wines and the cook of the steak. Will be back for sure

The food was delicious ,as was the set up! An amazing setting….the only draw back was the arrival of the huge silage lorry and the smell was ghastly…very strange to fix it for a Saturday!

Beautiful venue and lovely attentive staff however very disappointed with food. Starter very salty and pork with main was very tough. We have eaten at many restaurants and in comparison to others feel the the price definitely does not match the quality or quantity of the food sadly. Dessert was very small but was delicious . Was really looking forward to trying Updown out but left very disappointed. Also found it very strange to have to go through kitchen area to toilets. This could be such a smashing place to eat but pricing, quality and quantity of food needs a re think.

Lovely experience overall. We all had starters and main courses and they were delicious. Thought the wine list, whilst having a good range of prices, was of dubious quality. The red Sicilian wine (albeit only £29) was poor. Didn’t know a red Sicilian could be so poor. Service delightful and friendly as always.

We had a very good lunch. Nice fresh ingredients. A little lacking in seasoning was the only criticism. I like the small menu which always changes. The ambiance and service was superb. Just a tad overpriced.
