Not bad for a 198 year old restaurant. Boston at its best.

It's cool to visit the oldest restaurant in America and the waitress was quite capable and friendly. But the food is overpriced and barely average. I had the native scrod and you have to choose between a starch and a vegetable. Could have made a tastier rice and fish myself. But it is in a fun part of a town and it is a piece of history. The rest of my four-member party felt the same about their food - it was "meh." It seems like, for the prices charged (typical of good seafood restaurants), they can kick the quality up. (Note: no one in my party ordered oysters, which obviously are a specialty, so can't speak to that.)

Angelina was our server. Her knowledge and service was outstanding. She made sure our drinks was full and the two oysters help my wife overcome her fear of oysters. The lobster Mac and cheese was great. I ordered the scallops with rice pilaf was good and it was not rubbery at all If you happen to visit make sure to make a reservation and request Angelina.

Go here for the history. Not for the food. Expensive and very mediocre.

40 Years and Still Shucking I've been coming to the Union Oyster House for 40 years, and it never disappoints. This time, I headed straight from the airport and was greeted with the same warm atmosphere and delicious food I'd expected. Great job by our waitress, Debbie! The scallops were as fresh and perfectly cooked as ever. I also decided to try the fried oyster sandwich for the first time, and it was a revelation - crispy, flavorful, and addictive. If you're looking for a taste of Boston history and some of the best seafood in town, the Union Oyster House is a must-visit.

The corn bread was good and Ceasar salad was ok but then it was kind of downhill from there. We're local and we thought we'd try something different for our 33rd anniversary. We ordered the Basque mussels and they didn't come close the Prince Edward Island mussels we get at Legal or the one's we get at Atlantic fish. Our entre was the sea scallops with carrots as a vegetable with a single side order of baked beans which we shared. The scallops were baked with some kind of orange colored breading on them and were quite rubbery and the baby carrots had to be from a can and spent a great deal of time in a steam table before they were served to us. The baked beans which we paid $9 must have also been from a can overly sweet not in the New England tradition with a hint of tin flavor. While we were waiting for our food group of about thirty or more tourists showed up, Englishmen it appeared and we never heard from our waitress again though she was plainly in sight. We'll never do it again and happily stick with our old standbys that provide a mush more pleasant dining experience with more wholesome and better-quality food, ambiance, service and value!

The food was good. The calamari was overcooked and chewy. Great cornbread. Overall decent value for a fun dinner.

Due to travel complications, we had to adjust our reservation twice. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. Wonderful, historical ambience, and delicious food!
