Ulu Kitchen by Merriman is an ocean front restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner service featuring local ingredients and recipes created by chef Peter Merriman.

We have indoor and outdoor dining options, with a full bar, and the most prime dining views in all of Ka'anapali. The breakfast menu features classic favorites like Eggs Benedits, omelettes, pancakes, as well as some unique dishes like the cure (breakfast ramen) and our Hawaiian chilaquiles.

Lunch features our signature smash burger, fresh ahi tuna poke bowl, tempura battered fish and chips, and a fresh local veggie wrap.

Dinner has a seafood forward menu featuring Ahi Sashimi, Grilled Tako, Scallops, Mahi Mahi, Shrimp and Lobster Ravioli. From the land we offer a USDA Prime Beef Filet Mignon, Snake River Farms Wagyu Beef Cheeseburger, and Maui Nut Venison Loin.

Food came out cold, returned to kitchen for a re-fire, my entree steak frites was okay my wife’s fish was terrible. It was half the portion of fish, no rice that was supposed to be included and was on the cold dish. Green beans were terrible, loaded the plate with them and just saturated with garlic as if it was from the bottom of the pot. Elevated the concern to the waitress who offered a free desert, we said no. I had to go to locate the manager who was aware of the situation. He did not even have the professionalism to come to our table, he left the onus to explain the situation on the waitress and he set up the young waiting fail. Once approached and only on my feedback that I was not paying for to fish did he remove it from the bill. Needless to say zero percent tip was left. I have to mention that we ate there a week ago and had more or less the exact same meal, this is why we came back. That meal and service was excellent. Last week compared to today was completely different and terrible. Obviously no QA/QC coming out of the kitchen and no oversight from the manager.

We ordered crabcakes and manilla class before our steaks. Outstanding food!

Fantastic!!! Great service, amazing food! Ordered Corn chowder, salad special and fresh fish. So good!!!

Very rigid about not seating guests until the exact time of the reservation. We were 7 minutes early and ordered to wait until the exact time. They did this with everyone and were not very welcoming. Our server was excellent! Told her about a food allergy and she checked everything with the chef. However, the green beans had chili pepper flakes (allergy to peppers) on them and the manager minimized the significance and said they were dried so it wasn’t considered peppers. Except for the server, we did not have a positive experience.

So good! We enjoyed a splendid evening of drinks and dinner while watching the sun sink into the Pacific Ocean. The drinks, lobster appetizer, and scrumptious entrees were wonderful. I wish we could have enjoyed one of the desserts but we simply didn’t have room.

We are regulars at the various Ka’anapali restaurants, and are adding this to our list of go to places. Good food, superb service and the Merriman’s Mai Tai!

Being a Merriman restaurant we had high expectations and our meal and experience at Ulu was outstanding. We started with the Mai Tai's and they were just as delicious and lots of foam like Monkey Pods and my husband had the whiskey sour and it was great as well. Especially loved the coconut shrimp and the macadamia nut Mahi. The corn chowder was delicious and would have been great in a cooler climate. Not listed on menu the server suggested the focaccia bread and it was great but needed some salt added to top along with the herbs it had on it. We also had the crab cakes, farm mixed salad which were very good. For dessert we had the pineapple and the coconut crème brûlée and both were delicious. Our server Makayla (sp?) was fantastic from beginning to end. We will be back on our next visit to Maui.
