Ula is a beautiful European Mediterranean restaurant and tapas bar in San Francisco. Sip your martini or quality wine with a seafood-centric menu that has a focus on raw, roasted, and grilled fish and various roasted and grilled meats, pasta, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan selections. The restaurant is maximalist art deco with fixtures that depict jellyfish, oysters, and grand maritime vessels. Just a hop from Union Square, the delightfully vintage dining room begs to be paired with a nostalgic trolley ride and a stroll through the heart of the city. Ula has never disappointed. The professional staff welcomed us with sincerity and enthusiasm. The bartenders clearly explained the questions we had about some of the drinks we were interested in ordering, and happily obliged our special requests. Our appetizers of oysters, crap cakes, garlic shrimp, and octopus carpaccio were perfectly prepared and at the table within minutes. Our entrees of ravioli, lamb chops, and paella were delicious and presented with artistic flair. However, the best part about Ula is their attentive staff and genuine hospitality. We will be returning many more times.

It’s the most beautiful restaurant in San Francisco. The fantastic lighting, mosaic work, paintings, the staircase, the furniture and more are interesting and gorgeous. But of course, we came to eat and drink and this too was excellent! We started with cocktails, which were delightful. Then my friend and I shared three tapas and an entree. They offer half-orders on many tapas, which I appreciate. For our tapas we had the crab cakes, the shrimp, and the chicken pastry. They were all delicious. We thought the shrimp dish was especially good. We shared the scallops and chorizo entree. It was also terrific. All the staff we interacted with were warm and professional, especially our server, who was a delight. Bonus: it’s not too noisy at this beautiful restaurant. My friend and I could speak and listen and laugh together comfortably. We had a wonderful evening at Ula. I recommend it!

The old farallon space still the same dated appearance with a pseudo Mediterranean menu that feels not exactly responsive to the ambience. Prices are really quite high for the value and amount of food that we have but overall it’s enjoyable just not special.

Love eating dinner here when visiting the City! The decor is like eating on Ariel’s Grotto. The food is always good and service excellent!

First of all our server Ian, was lovely, professional and super attentive. For being such a high ticket establishment, I would have hoped the tiny crab cakes would have been pan fried rather than deep fried in a fryer rather. That was an odd choice of preparation. Also the steak tartare was sub par and tasting like ketchep with an odd pairing of some sprinkle of cheese that tasted as if it had gone rancid. Cocktails were good, but we cut our dinner short after the 2 apps, and decided it would be best to go elsewhere for our mains. Sadly, wont be returning.

Wonderful experience. Food is excellent and i would recommend the pecan tart. Service was engaging and attentive, absolutely fantastic experience.
