In a stunning Cornish Atlantic setting, just a mile from St Ives, Ugly Butterfly restaurant and bar offers spectacular views across one of the worlds most beautiful coasts, Carbis Bay. Ugly Butterfly showcases chef Adam Handling’s passion for converting locally-sourced, quality ingredients into beautifully-presented dishes, packed full of flavour. Offering an all-day dining experience, the Ugly Butterfly bar uses trims and offcuts from the ingredients used in the restaurant to create delicious drinks and bar snacks. This bar menu will illustrate that there is no such thing as food waste, much in the same way that there is no such thing as an Ugly Butterfly.

Chef Charlie & Chef Luke were outstanding and provided good entertainment and engagement. I would have preferred to add my own tip opposed to being presumed to provide a 15% service charge even though it was well deserved.

We had a fabulous evening with fantastic food and excellent service. The only slight negative was the fact that there were 3 dogs in the restaurant which is something we have never seen before. A friend of ours who was hoping to come with us is is severely allergic to dogs and this would have been a real problem for him. As it was he wasn’t able to join us last night so it wasn’t an issue but it would have been very different if he had come with us only to be confronted by not 1 but 3 dogs!

Cosy, relaxed atmosphere with amazing food and drinks. Lovely staff as well who were attentive and accommodating. We love that they are zero waste and use high quality, local produce, plus they are dog friendly which is always a plus. Overall a great evening.

Creative locally resourced delicious food!!!! View of the ocean was spectacular. The opening snacks, crab and lobster dishes were great. Palate cleansers were unique and just as delicious as the menu items!

A fabulous meal to celebrate a birthday and special family reunion. We were warmly welcomed and the service was impeccable. Knowledgeable staff, fantastic sommelier, Tom organised a special bottle of wine for the table as a present and it was delicious and complemented the food beautifully. The bar manager was incredibly helpful navigating the full and varied cocktail menu and recommended and served us beautiful cocktails based on our individual taste preferences . The food itself was delicious. A real food journey through the tasting menu with exquisite presentation. Each course was a work of art. A memorable meal in a beautiful setting. Fantastic setting, panoramic view of the shore and sea. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The restaurant itself was spacious and comfortable. The food was excellent and the premium wine tasting g was great. The sommelier was knowledgeable and informative. The kitchen staff were chatty and fun. I’d highly recommend it.

Lovely friendly staff who made it an experience and it was great that it was also dog friendly. Lovely calm atmosphere with a great view. Afternoon tea was amazing with lots of different flavors/textures. Could eat 100 of the cheese on toasts! Would go back again and again

Wow. Friendly and anything but pretentious but superb food and a wonderful ethos behind it. And catered for none drinkers with a fantastic none alcoholic pairing. Would definitely recommend

The best view of all the Michelin star experience restaurants I’ve been to. The view from floor to ceiling glass over Carbis Bay, is simply stunning. However the food and wine flyte were superior at most of the other Michelin star “taster chef menu” restaurants like L’Enclume, Black Swan Oldstead etc. So you defo pay for the environment as Ugly Butterfly is apparently not starred yet. The sustainability agenda is a little forced in light of the value. The staff are very attentive and no complaints about service the whole experience is flamboyant and theatrical. I’d say this was the most expensive taster menu I’ve experienced, at £700 approx for three of us and only one had the classic wine pairing, the other two had a carafe of Chardonnay to share. Albeit for me, that was the best wine at £50 for a carafe. That would put me off returning to the restaurant for the taster menu again, but I’d happily go back for the more sensibly priced bar menu and the view. Profit is the name of the game here and it’s a good experience if you’ve a spare grand to throw about and want a stunning environment.

We booed afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary and it was a really lovely experience. The restaurant and bar are beautifully decorated, the view is stunning and the staff are very friendly, chatty and welcoming, we even had a card signed by all the staff. The food was spectacular, the snack section made it different to a normal afternoon tea. The ethos of the chef and the restaurant made me book, the experience will make me rebook.
