Great choice on the menu and everything was very good apart from the pan fried sea bass which was very dry and seemed over done. When we mentioned how dry it was we were told it was supposed to be like that, it didn’t say that on the menu and if it had my Mum wouldn’t have chosen it. None of us had ever seen sea bass cooked so dry, tough and crispy, normally it is kept quite soft and flaky. It would have been nice for my Mum to have been offered an alternative, because she was quite disappointed. Other than that everything was lovely.

In relation to your mums Pan Fried Sea Bass, we certainly wouldnt say it’s usual for it to come tough & dry, however yes it does have a light crisp on the outer layer from it being pan fried. If a member of staff was informed that your mum wasn’t enjoying her meal we would’ve been more than happy to offer an instant replacement, so please let us know in the future! Food was mediocre at best. Could have made better flavours/meals at home - and super expensive. Auto 10% service charge. The service was decent, to be fair. Ambience was lacking in character and felt plastic. Not for us. We had our mains and got the bill.

Staff and service lovely however menu quite limited and 90% of food / starters very hot not spicy

Hello Shaan, thank you for leaving us this review. If ordering from the starters like yourselves, 2-3 of the dishes are spicy, leaving the other 15 not to be. As you had only ordered a few dishes, you are always welcome to try the rest and see why your statement above is incorrect. Try Trio when you’re next in York. Great food and wine. Friendly, helpful staff. Family business. Good ambience. Overall a great place to eat.

Watch out for the service charge! The fish was very nice but swimming in oil, which may not suit everyone. Not alot of variety on the desserts menu.

Hello, as stated on our menu, service charge is always optional, and our Seasonal fish dishes are never swimming in oil, rather delicately crafted in a seasonal condiment, which at current is White wine & Caper. Thank you

Beautiful place and amazing food, so pleased we chose this restaurant. Waitress was so lovely, explained the food, was very attentive without being in your face. Lovely proper cocktails too!

We were a little disappointed they no longer did tapas but found something we all wanted to eat. The meals were all of a very good standard and very tasty. The service was good. We were however shocked how over priced drinks were £12 for a single gin and tonic and £7.95 for a glass of prosecco. I recommend going for food but don't buy any alcoholic drinks. Such a shame.

Hello Fiona, we’re more than happy you were satisfied with our food and service, and I’m here to explain your misunderstandings in the remainders of your review. A single gin & tonic can cost as cheap as £6, which you may be mistaking for our gin serves, which are indeed doubles and high end quality gins! And as for our Prosecco, anywhere else you go you will be served a 125ml glass, whereas at Trio we take things up and provide 175ml, where the price is more than reasonable.
