The menu was restricting. We visited late October and the a la Carte menu was still offering summer salads. It was not the sort of menu we were expecting for an a la carte. There were no steaks or any cheese and biscuits. The set menu rotated between pork belly and chicken on alternate days. There were pizza and curry choices and chicken with noodles. The food we chose was very nice but not what we would expect for a hotel if this calibre.

Afternoon tea was poor value. Cakes out of packets and sandwiches included one made with crust end of the loaf. Service was good. Overall place is tired and needs some updating.

Dreadful! Table was booked for 8pm for our anniversary dinner. Stood waiting to be shown to table for 10minutes then had to chase for someone to take order and finally got some food at 9.20pm. Nobody in the restaurant had any food and only think we got ours because we complained. Not enough chefs, poor waiters were left to field complaints from numerous tables. Whole hotel needs new management. Don’t bother!

Food is dry vegetables undercooked and hard. If booking DBB you discover that you are limited to a shortened menu and 2courses only! Staff lack training and dishes tend to run out. Very disappointing.

I was a little dubious about staying half board at the Welcombe after reading a couple of bad reviews but I needn't have worried. The dinning room and lounge are very welcoming. The staff were very polite and efficient. It has lovely ambience with white linen table cloths and a wonderful view of the beautiful garden and beyond. There is a great overall choice for breakfast with as little or as much as you like. The evening meal consisted of a choice of two dishes from a three course menu with a choice from three starters, three mains or three dessert menus. I tried something different every night and I wasn't disappointed in any way. I would definitely recommended dining in. Having a smaller choice at meal times made it much easier for me. There is nothing I could fault in my entire three night break and I will definitely be returning.

Nice room but only three main courses, fish, chicken & curry plus bar food (burger pizzas) Very poor value for money.

The service was haphazard at best. When waiting to be seated, the whispering waiter took our names and wandered off with no communication - apparently we were supposed to follow him. When we got to the table I started to pull out my chair before he took over, and then apologised as I had to wipe crumbs off the seat before sitting. At that point another waiter took over to sort our food and drink order. He did advise the kitchen was about to close which may explain some of the following. The menu differed to the one online so the dishes I wanted to order weren’t actually available. I ordered the sea bass with saffron risotto, my husband the vegan Thai curry. When it arrived my dish was unseasoned and flavourless, my husbands was so salty it was almost inedible. It was quite late and we were so hungry we ate it anyway, and had anyone at all asked how our food was we would have told them but no one was in the least bit interested. It was actually quite difficult to get anyone’s attention at all. We decided to order a dessert to try to salvage the experience but the “white chocolate” vanilla and red fruit cheesecake was blatantly out of a supermarket packet, grainy texture, horrible taste and 2 crumbs of white chocolate buried under a thick layer of red goo. I wouldn’t have minded had the price reflected the quality but they are charging London prices because of the setting, whilst the food quality just doesn’t live up to the standards. Eat somewhere else.
