Extremely disappointing experience, dining at Trattoria Il Panina tonight. My wife and I made the reservation thru Open Table because it was the top ranked restaurant in the North End on Open Table. Despite our reservation, our table was not ready so we took seats at the bar, only steps from the host station. Even though we were in full view of the three “hosts” loitering at the host station, we were not notified that our table was ready. (They sent a text). Then we were put at a table, crammed in the back corner, by the noisy kitchen, which was open to the dining room. No quality restaurant would place a table there. Our waiter was at best disinterested, borderline rude. Barely made eye contact while taking our order and did not check with us during our entire meal. My wife ordered a glass of Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, $13 a glass. When she ordered a 2nd glass, she was not given the same wine. Tasted like a cheap house red? When questioned, the waiter brought a glass of the Montepulciano without explanation. We had the Bibb lettuce salad. Good, not great. The melanzane appetizer was also good, but not great. The ravioli porcini was rich and tasty, a high point of our meal. Indifferent food service, errors in wine service, mediocre meal, cramped crowded noisy (lack of) ambiance. Perhaps a restaurant coasting on reputation, catering to tourists who don’t know any better. We won’t be back, but since we are tourists to Boston, maybe they don’t care.

Repeat patron. Always excellent food and service. The homemade pasta is so good that I order it every time, different types but usually eat a low carb diet. Totally worth it. Delicious

Food was great but the wait staff rushed us out of there. They cleared our appetizer plates before we were even done with our app. When we told them we weren’t finished they said “no your entree is here” and wouldn’t give us our side plates back. Waiter also took one of our drinks before it was finished so we had to tell him we weren’t finished with it either. Four people with drinks, appetizer & entrees were in and out in an hour. It’s clear they’re looking to turn over tables rather than provide a satisfactory dining experience. If you’re okay with being rushed, the food is delicious and the drinks were great!

Jesus is a lazy server. We saw him after sitting for 20 minutes and then he disappeared. We saw him standing in the kitchen. He didn’t put our order in correctly, when ordering I was super clear I had a specific dietary need. He had a horrible attitude and said he can’t control the kitchen when he doesn’t know how to be a server.

I enjoyed how intimate and cozy the place felt, reminiscent of my time in Italy. The ambiance captured that same warm, welcoming vibe, and the food was absolutely incredible.
