We enjoy going to Toulouse as the food never disappoints! From the escargots to the beef tartare and the warm brie.. everything was superb! The only complaint I have is that we were getting bothered every 5 minutes by the bus boys/girls. They kept asking us if we were finished when we clearly weren’t! It became annoying after a while as it almost feels like they want you to leave, even if it wasn’t the case. I’m all for great service but that was a bit much.

Toulouse has been a favorite spot for me and my friends for years, but our recent visit on October 28, 2024, left us extremely disappointed. I booked a lunch reservation for two to celebrate my friend’s birthday, and she arrived before I did. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Tower and Lobster Tacos and indicated that it would be enough. However, our server, Dany, persistently pushed the day’s special Seabass, which was not on the menu. When we asked for the bill, Dany brought out the payment machine without showing us the detailed check, saying he’d provide it after we paid. Once we saw the total charge of $175, we asked again to see the breakdown. The Seabass was $78, and a bottle of water was $8. The bill had separate charges for cash and non-cash payments, which added to our confusion. I questioned why Dany hadn’t informed us of the Seabass price when he suggested it, especially since $78 seemed excessive for a lunch item. He said he wasn’t allowed to disclose prices unless specifically asked. We spoke to the manager, who initially estimated the Seabass at around $60-$70 but eventually admitted it could reach $78 after we showed him the bill. When we pointed out that Dany hadn’t been transparent, the manager explained " UNLESS you asked", same way without any apology. To make me more upset when my friend told me that she had asked for regular still water, yet Dany served bottled water before I arrived and later charged $8 for it. No gesture was made for the birthday occasion, and although a small discount was eventually offered, this experience shattered our trust in the restaurant. It felt dishonest and disappointing, and we left feeling cheated by the lack of transparency and hospitality.

The ambience was nice and the food was good. Our service was ok as there was an issue with getting water and no almonds was requested for the French toast and there were almonds on it.

Our overall experience was great, but our waiter, Steven needs more patience and understanding, he was frustrated with having to wait on a number of tables he had become frantic and passed on to his customers.

We’ve been loyal patrons of Toulouse for years, often choosing it as a favorite spot for brunch. However, during our latest visit, we were seated with an older Latina heavy set waitress whose initial interaction was unexpectedly cold and dismissive. She continued to ignore us and show preferential treatment to other patrons. We are a Black family, and we noticed she seemed irritated by even the simplest requests, like asking for bread. After some deliberation with my husband, we decided to ask for a new server to ensure we could enjoy our afternoon without the tension. When I approached the manager—a white man in a blue linen suit—I overheard him and the waitress speaking about us with irritation, suggesting that we should have simply 'requested bread' rather than asking for more service. Unfazed, I politely requested a different server. It’s troubling when long-standing customers experience what feels like unwarranted hostility. This experience left us questioning whether we’d want to return to a place we once enjoyed. I’m sharing this as a note of caution for other Black patrons.

We accidentally ended up choosing one of the few days when dining al fresco is feasible in Houston. Initially seated out on the patio, we moved to the covered patio when cigarette smoke wafted our way. As dusk fell, ambiance was created by many tiny table lamps. The Grilled Octopus Niçoise was a delightful surprise of a starter. I’ve become a huge fan of octopus since spending time in Spain and Portugal. This dish had a perfectly grilled tentacle on a bed of artichoke purée with cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced zucchini, olives and capers contributing to the flavor. Unique and I would go back just for this dish. It could easily have served as a main course. I chose the sea bass and my guest the Dover Sole meunière. Both were perfectly prepared. The sea bass had a crisp exterior with tender flakes inside. It rested upon sautéed baby spinach leaves with lots of chopped garlic on top. Got my iron supply and enjoy vampire preventative to last thru Halloween. So good. The sole was deboned table-side and served with the sauce on the side. An assortment of vegetables accompanied it. We refrained from dessert although the sweets were enticing. Service was generally good but we had a couple of times when we couldn’t get the attention of any of the staff. I find the “blind eye”technique used by staff in any restaurant extremely annoying. The prices reflect the location I’m sure but $36 for a glass of Veuve is a bit extreme.
