Food was so good. Unfortunately the service could not keep up. My husbands steak came out 10 minutes before the rest of the food and we were told they come from different kitchens???? our margarita was not a margarita and they did not take it back, nor credit us. The manager came over to check on us and was going to get our check, but never did. 30 minutes later our waiter brought it. Way to frustrating to go back which is a pity.... the food was so good!

Chef Richard Sandoval has an international empire of 60+ restaurants showcasing the cuisine of Latin America. His Toro has only been open a few weeks, but, based on our first dinner there, it joins places like Tanta, Cabra, and Leña Brava featuring outstanding recipes and drinks from across Latin America. We started with cocktails: Corn & Mezcal and Passion Pisco Sour. Both were excellent, balanced, and not too sweet. The smoked guacamole was served in a cloud of smoke with fresh housemade plantain and tortilla chips. If you like quesadillas, you’ll love Venezuelan Cachapas which use sweet corn pancakes in place of tortillas. We chose Short Rib Chaufa as one entrée. This Peruvian dish the reflects the influence of Japanese immigrants on Peruvian cuisine. It’s a flavor bomb with meltingly tender beef. Zarandeado is a Mexican dish made by marinating fish in achiote and citrus, then grilling it over hot coals. They nailed this dish with a perfectly cooked branzino. I had heard of Peruvian Black Whiskey, but had never tried it. It is made like bourbon, using native Peruvian black corn. I first tried it in an Incan Goddess cocktail, which is a riff on an Old Fashioned using habanero bitters and a Mexican herbal liqueur. The cocktail was delicious, and the Picasso bull (toro) branded on the orange peel was a cool touch. I also tried the whiskey neat. It was dark with a bold nose of caramel that was almost burnt, but in a good way. Also some licorice and spice notes. Heavy and mouth coating on the palate, molasses, baking spices, dark fruits and a brighter note of apple or citrus. It is not like any whiskey I have ever tasted, but it worked at the end of the meal. We did not plan to order dessert, but when we learned that the yellow corn cake was Chef Sandoval’s mother’s (or was it grandmother’s?) recipe, we had to try it. A slice of Yuzu cheesecake rounded out our overindulgence. Both desserts were excellent—not too sweet and not too large.

AMAZING food; service is still working things out. The restaurant had not yet had its grand opening, and it is clear the restaurant is still finding is groove and timing. While not represented as a tapas restaurant, our main dishes arrived before our starters. They all arrived near the same time and quickly had a full table with little room. For a three course meal, we saw our waiter twice. With better timing and attention, we easily would have ordered another round of drinks between courses. However, the flavors of the dishes were bold and unique. I would come back just for the quality of the meal itself.

Overly salty dishes. Flavors were unique but not balanced as well as you would expect at that price point. It is the first couple of weeks so will be interested to sample again after they iron out the wrinkles.

Not properly greeted. Waited to be greeted. Did not get menus right away. Server Dylan was knowledgeable and helpful on choices for menu items. Food was only ok, overly sauced , too salty, not balanced . Low value for price point.

We had a fantastic dinner at Toro. Everything was perfect and that of an upscale experience. The food presentation was beautiful with a wonderful combination of flavors. The ambiance was warm and comfortable. Service was so friendly and attentive. Drinks were sensational. We were shocked it was only their second week open. They were spot on in every aspect. We had the smoked guacamole, scallops and pork belly, fresh catch and Lomo Saltado. We loved all the dishes and would highly recommend them. We live in the area and will be back.

Great experience. Our waiter, Xavier, has the hospitality experience dialed in to concierge level service. The apps, the mains, and the after dinner coffee cart experience were off the charts.

This is a new restaurant that opened recently in our neighborhood and was it a treat. From the time we walked in until we left we were surrounded by a friendly and courteous staff. The food was sublime. The flavors were amazing. My favorite was the dessert which featured a corn cake which was from the Chef’s grand mother’s recipe. We will certainly come back again and bring our friends. Highly recommend this place for foodies. You will not be disappointed.
