   We had a wonderful experience at Tonkatsu Kuro. Amazing food: tonkatsu was done perfectly, perfect crust, soft and delicate. The soba noodles were slightly softer than I like (I like al dente) but was still flavorful. The service was good and plenty of wait staff checking in on us. 10/10

   The food was excellent ! Keep in mind there is minimal interaction with waitstaff because you order your meal in an iPad and a robot serves your food. However, the little interaction we had with our waitress was pleasant. You get a pretty good amount of Tonkatsu compared to other Tonkatsu joints. The meat is TENDER, like cut with a fork tender. 10/10

   We ordered the couple set and bibim noodles with curry sauce. Overall, the pork cutlet was quite tender. The chicken katsu and shrimp katsu were tasty but a bit greasy. The bibim noodles helped balance out the greasiness. The overall atmosphere and interior were clean. One downside was that it felt like they were trying to rush us out, probably because the place was busy and there were other customers waiting. It would be nice if they also sold beer. Overall, I don’t think I would visit frequently!

   Amazing Tonkatsu, light and crispy! Soba was cooked to perfection and very tasty broth! Will definitely come here again. It was like eating in Japan!

   Excellent. My wife and I were very pleasantly pleased with our first visit to Tonkatsu Kuro. We both tried the somen and Tonkatsu combination dinners. Outstanding. Superb service by energetic and professional staff! The Tonkatsu was perfectly crisp, light, and tasty. The somen was absolutely delicious. What a welcomed new restaurant to the Ward area! Will definitely be coming back!

   This restaurant specializes in high-quality Kurobuta pork tonkatsu (loin and tenderloin), shrimp katsu, and soba dishes. The menu is simple, accessible via a table tablet, which is also required for ordering. We tried the loin katsu set, the kuro soba and katsu half set, which includes cabbage salad, miso soup, tsukemono, premium white rice, we ordered an extra bibim soba, and shrimp katsu. The shrimp katsu was crispy, light, and tender—a great recommendation. The loin katsu was also crispy, light, and tender, but it was missing flavor compared to Ginza and Tamafuji. The soba was good, and the dashi broth has a very rich flavor. Rice was excellent, tsukemono was good, miso soup average, and the cabbage salad was fresh with a good ponzu dressing. No cabbage refills. Each table has condiments, including tonkatsu sauce and ponzu. Service was limited—a robot delivers food, while servers assist. Our server, was friendly and knowledgeable, but water refills were missed due to busyness. The restroom situation is poor—only one gender-neutral stall with a loose sliding door and a slippery floor. The ambiance is clean and simple, with a communal table in the center and separate perimeter seating. The narrow walkway near the restroom can be congested. Overall the restaurant is good for katsu, but I was not blown away compared to the other premium katsu places on Oahu.

   The food was good but the service was the worst. The tall Asian gentleman with glasses didn’t say anything to us and when he gave us water, he slammed the glass on the table. There was also no explanation on how to order our food. No welcome at all!

    Nice interior, open, clean and modern. Service was good, hostess and servers were quick, pleasant and helpful. Orders were taken on a tablet fixed to the table, so paper menus were also provided. Food was outstanding, felt like eating in Japan. Loin Tonkatsu and shrimp katsu were cooked perfectly, outside was crisp, not oily, and inside was juicy, not overcooked/dry. For fun and flavor, each guest got their own little mortar and pestle to grind sesame seeds to pair with their katsu sauce. Generous containers of tonkatsu and spicy garlic sauces, and sesame seed dressing were on table for self-service, as were utensils and napkins (tucked away in a clever drawer at end of table.) Shrimp katsu were huge and came with a garlicky aioli. Premium sets come with endless rice, miso soup, and cabbage. Soba was served cold and perfectly al dente. Not too firm, not too soggy, with a bouncy chew without being rubbery. Their Kuro soba had classic tsuyu, topped with green onions, nori, sesame seeds, grated daikon, ume, with a bit of wasabi on the edge of the bowl. Will try the lemon and bibim versions next time because will definitely be back!
