Thirty Bales is a celebration of everything Midwestern cuisine has to offer. We're an upbeat neighborhood restaurant bringing together bright personalities, bold recipes, clean ingredients and craft spirits and playing with the flavors that make the Midwest a place unlike any other.

If you're curious about our name, it comes from the legend of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. As the story goes, Babe had an appetite as big as Bunyan himself and is rumored to have eaten 30 bales of hay a day.

Like our restaurant's big blue spirit animal, we're a pack of people that lives to eat and drink. We're endlessly in love with the Midwest and its connection to seasonal ingredients grown close to home. It's what inspires our menu and our team. And it's what inspires us as we tell our own story with the flavors and spirits of the Midwest.

We dont eat out often. I’d eaten here before with friends and was excited to bring my husband as I’d really enjoyed. However, maybe it was because it was a Tuesday night in Nov but it wasn’t as good as remembered. My short rib lasagna had terrific flavor but was dry and was as if leftover from the weekend and reheated and not really hot enough. The wedge salad was very good and huge (even split in 2) his pot pie was predominantly carrots so too sweet. Plus when did they go to paper napkins? And, considering what we spent and with multiple courses I do expect bread on the table, crackers with the salad? A piece of garlic bread with lasagna? Good but not great. No wonder we dont eat out much as we can cook better and cheaper at home. No real complaints just no real kudos either. Thank goodness it is not a chain!

My wife had the salmon and I had the chicken piccata. Both were over done and dry.

The food was okay and nicely presented. It was very overpriced and we will not return.

I have heard amazing things about short rib pot pie only to be told we are out of that… next best I heard was short rib lasagna. It was bland. Needed a lot of salt. And nothing to go with the entree. Total bill with two drinks $150. Sorry. Not coming back. Not worth my back-breaking money.

We eat here often and like the atmosphere and food. I love the beet salad. New desserts would be a nice change. The wait staff are very pleasant.

Sam was an excellent server and was full of history and tidbits about Thirty Bales and Hopkins, very fun to hear his excitement about the food and philosophy of Thirty Bales. His shift was over before we were done eating so Noah took over and he was excellent as well! Loved hearing about his family! The food of course was excellent - 4 of us had 3 different items and all were very good! So hard to choose from the menu because everything looks good. I've been there at least 3 times before this so I was familiar with how good everything is!

Loved being able to make a Sunday brunch reservation easily on OpenTable. No issues in seating, and when we asked to be near a television for the start of the Vikings' game, no issue. Martha our server was fun, friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and kind to our five- year old. The menu choices for all were great, and our son loved his pancakes and chocolate milk. The Farmer's Breakfast was massive and tasty. And the boozy French toast was filling and perfectly prepared. Thank you.
