Thirty Bales is a celebration of everything Midwestern cuisine has to offer. We're an upbeat neighborhood restaurant bringing together bright personalities, bold recipes, clean ingredients and craft spirits and playing with the flavors that make the Midwest a place unlike any other.

If you're curious about our name, it comes from the legend of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. As the story goes, Babe had an appetite as big as Bunyan himself and is rumored to have eaten 30 bales of hay a day.

Like our restaurant's big blue spirit animal, we're a pack of people that lives to eat and drink. We're endlessly in love with the Midwest and its connection to seasonal ingredients grown close to home. It's what inspires our menu and our team. And it's what inspires us as we tell our own story with the flavors and spirits of the Midwest.

Went here for the first time with our adult daughter and her 3year old after a kids’ play at the theater across the street. It was busy but not packed. Waitress was great, told us it was busy for her and that she would try to give us the best service she could. We appreciated that information from her. The menu selection was good for our preferences. They were out of chicken fingers, but we got a cheeseburger instead for the three year-old All the food was high-quality with good flavors. My husband, especially like the sauce on his hamburger. I appreciated that the noise level was quite reasonable for a restaurant with a bar in the middle of it. The TV is in the bar area were not obnoxiously in our face, which we appreciated. Overall we give it high marks and we would return.

Top to bottom this was one of the more poorer experiences I’ve had in awhile. The service was slow, they had to be reminded to bring water and other drinks ordered, the food was poor - undercooked fries, they served raw bacon on the appetizer.

Service was great, food was delicious. We had the Bol du Nord, short rib pie, short rib lasagna and gumbo and all were delicious. Dessert was a hit too, the bourbon bread pudding and carrot cake. Great place, we will be back.

We went in for brunch before a show at the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts, and we were delighted by the wonderful service, interesting menu and wonderful food, and some nice brunch drinks including a couple of good mocktails. Good value, good food, in a nice spot. We will be back!

Overall, the experience was fine and the food quite good. The hostess was not welcoming and quite rude, and that being our first experience sort of soured the experience. The waitress was kind, and accommodating. Again, food was great but took quite a while to get out (just over a half hour).

Highly recommend to anyone. The service was excellent and the food was excellent. Would definitely go back.

We dont eat out often. I’d eaten here before with friends and was excited to bring my husband as I’d really enjoyed. However, maybe it was because it was a Tuesday night in Nov but it wasn’t as good as remembered. My short rib lasagna had terrific flavor but was dry and was as if leftover from the weekend and reheated and not really hot enough. The wedge salad was very good and huge (even split in 2) his pot pie was predominantly carrots so too sweet. Plus when did they go to paper napkins? And, considering what we spent and with multiple courses I do expect bread on the table, crackers with the salad? A piece of garlic bread with lasagna? Good but not great. No wonder we dont eat out much as we can cook better and cheaper at home. No real complaints just no real kudos either. Thank goodness it is not a chain!

My wife had the salmon and I had the chicken piccata. Both were over done and dry.
