THE WOODSMAN IS A TRULY BRITISH RESTAURANT
We use the best British ingredients, all sourced as sustainably as possible.

We love using Wild food, and harvest much of it ourselves. All the meat on our menus is “nose to tail” so the menu is ever changing, and we waste nothing. We even employ our own head ranger to keep the deer herds on the land we manage under control, and have our own deer larder in the Cotswolds where this amazing product is processed.

Our fish comes from day boats in Cornwall.

We work with the seasons, ensuring the very best truly local veg is with us the day after its picked. Our food is cooked over wood from local plantations, and charcoal coppiced less than 20 miles away.

We know the story of everything on the menu.

Our lovely staff are extremely well informed, so, do ask questions on anything you’re not sure of.

My visit to The Woodsman was definitely a meal to remember. I chose the tasting menu and it exceeded any expectations I may have had. Just fantastic food and the wine pairings were perfectly chosen!

Lovely meal (we both had the crab starter and pork belly main, with a side of lovely mash from the Sunday fixed price menu. One of the best roasts I’ve ever had and it plentiful, to the point where we couldn’t eat it all - which is very rare for me!! Quite pricey, but you get what you pay for and we did have a bar drink and a bottle of wine with the meal. Service was second to none. Attentive, but not overbearing. Top notch. All in all a great dining experience and will return if we’re in the area.

This was our third visit to the Woodsmen, the second for Sunday lunch and as always, the food was fantastic. We love this restaurant, the ambiance is always lovely and great for couples or families in equal measure - spacious which is a rarity between tables too. We had the beef and the chicken which were fantastic - the sheer volume of food on the sharing boards is impressive and aligns to the price. The gravy was sensational, different from what I’ve experienced before at other restaurants and a game changer. One slight negative was the level of service. The restaurant was very busy and I felt they were slightly understaffed to deal with it. A little bit of patience was required but not overly so that it detracted from the experience - the staff worked very hard to cover the gap in staff and were lovely under pressure. The Woodsmen is not one to be missed - highly recommended.

Have frequented The Woodsman many times since 2019. This weekend’s Sunday roast was the least impressive. In the past, the daily specials would be different each day but this time, there was only shoulder of lamb on both Saturday and Sunday. My main gripe is that at 12 noon Sunday lunch service, both roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding was room temperature which tells me it was prepared quite some time ago. I know for a fact that their roast potatoes used to be fantastic but now it didn’t even taste like it was made on the Saturday! In that case, may as well just go for the many other Sunday Roast eateries in Stratford if they can’t take the trouble to make it special. Having said all that, Saturday lunch with the lamb was very good, up to their usual standards but thinks are moving in the wrong direction.

Went for Sunday Lunch, limited choice of starters for younger dinners. Food well prepared, hot and plentiful. Beef well cooked (Med-Rare) and Pork skin made into perfect cracking. Service very good, good choice of beers. Minor negative, table set looking at a wall between two windows, and 5 people crammed onto a table for 4. The hostess did offer to move us if we waited 15mins, but having already waited 15mins beyond our booking time the kids just wanted to eat. Will be back…

Overall this was a very good meal food wise, our food choices were both tasty and plentiful. Service was disappointing. Waited to be greeted and seated, as no one was on reception, maybe they were short staffed. Waitress brisk and not particularly attentive making us feel like we were a consequence of her being there. Drinks and food delivery waiters were pleasant though. Wish we could be more positive about the experience.
