THE WOODSMAN IS A TRULY BRITISH RESTAURANT
We use the best British ingredients, all sourced as sustainably as possible.

We love using Wild food, and harvest much of it ourselves. All the meat on our menus is “nose to tail” so the menu is ever changing, and we waste nothing. We even employ our own head ranger to keep the deer herds on the land we manage under control, and have our own deer larder in the Cotswolds where this amazing product is processed.

Our fish comes from day boats in Cornwall.

We work with the seasons, ensuring the very best truly local veg is with us the day after its picked. Our food is cooked over wood from local plantations, and charcoal coppiced less than 20 miles away.

We know the story of everything on the menu.

Our lovely staff are extremely well informed, so, do ask questions on anything you’re not sure of.

Our experience was probably heavily affected by the fact it was a Sunday. Unfortunately the experience of the chef's truly delicious food was marred by the unhelpful lack of information which would have warned us of the huge portion size of the Roast dishes. As was obvious from most of the fellow guest and the amount of food waste going back, it was not just us. No one likes to feel they are being had, so suggesting an extra side of dish of cauliflower cheese when all the time fully aware that abnormally large portion size of meat and vegetable would be more than sufficient seemed like a ploy to up the total - increasing the compulsory £16.00 tip. It was disrespectful both to the hard work of the chef and the team, and to the planet, to wilfully refuse to reduce the inevitable food waste - and that left a bad taste in an otherwise faultless meal.

You’ll struggle to beat the woodsman for Sunday lunch. Impeccable.

Food was amazing as always . Unfortunately service was a bit slow tonight booking was at 630 didn’t get our mains until 8 pm

Well appointed restaurant, great room to eat in. Our starters were a little on the bland side - Leek and Potato Soup and Duck Pastrami Salad. Really nicely cooked Roast Sirloin of Beef and the Braised Ox Cheek stuffed Yorkies were superb. The Monkfish with Langoustine Bisque was brilliant, I could have drunk the Bisque on its own ! A little point, if you are serving Bisque lay a spoon with the cutlery. Desserts were very good. Service was hit and miss. Two of our waitresses were attentive and very professional. However our reception on arrival at the restaurant was poor. The attitude of "we are really busy so go to the bar or sit in the corridor" was not welcoming. The barman saying that we could not put our drinks on our bill as we had not been given our table was very poor. And then offering a table to wait at to a group who arrived after us left a sour taste. Overall a good experience at the Woodsman but the service needs attention.

The experience is more rustic than a fine dining restaurant (not a bad thing!) and while the food seems comparable the ambience and service is more relaxed. It’s expensive - £200 for two of us - it was a good job it was a celebration!, but we will be back, particularly since the menu changes seasonally and we’ll enjoy trying something different.

Excellent service. Restaurant is small and quite noisy during a busy service. It also alternates between being too warm and too cold depending on whether they open the door to the garden or not. It is a tad overpriced though. £49 for three at Sunday lunch is only worth it if the food quality and quantities match. The croquettes on the platter for two are tasteless. The roast beef on the Sunday lunch is tasty but you only get two very small slices. You need at least three at those costs. Reduce the prices or increase the quantity. The Sunday lunch also need a bit of green on the plate too. Maybe some broccoli?
