The Woodmans Arms is a beautiful ‘country feel’ pub and dining room situated within the village of Whickham, at the top of the hill, hidden amongst rows of spectacular trees. We are more than just a venue, we are a destination worth travelling to serving classic comforting food made with love, served in cosy surroundings overlooking the most amazing views of the North East.

We are the proud winner of the Newcastle Chronicle’s Eddy Eats’ pub of the year for character, quality, service and value. UK top 3 in the Seafish National Fish and Chip awards 2019 and Diners’ choice award for best ambience. Best British Pub Pie winner for 2020.

We support our local farmers, and work closely with a number of local suppliers to ensure the very best fresh produce. All our food is cooked freshly to order so whether it be a bar snack, light bite, leisurely lunch, evening meal or Sunday Roast it is safe to say that you will in safe hands.

The is was the first time after many months of wanting to visit. The wait was well worth it. We will definitely be returning. Overall score only lost the 5th star as we were quite cold but that may be impossible to rectify.

Well worth the drive out, each time we visit we find the food just gets better, plenty to choose from too

Ordered 5 Sunday dinners and all came with lots of meat either, lamb, chicken, beef but we expected one to come with more than one slice of Pork. When asked for more they were very accommodating but it took approx 6mins to add a single slice of pork to a plate and the rest of us felt awkward eating when my wife wasn’t. I also had to prompt them to bring it to us and it arrived with everything else on the plate cold by the time they added one slice more of pork. It shouldn’t have been such a hard thing to do I don’t think. When asked for the bill it arrived in under 1 minute shame the pork didn’t though!

Hi Karl, We are so sorry the Sunday Dinners weren't to your liking. I can assure you, the components of our Sunday lunches are cooked throughout our full service times and are not "warmed up" as you mentioned. If you dissatisfied with what you received I'd have hoped you would have mentioned it to one of the servers and we could have rectified any points made. It is also highly unfair to have marked us down on all aspects here (ie. service and ambience) when you have only mentioned things that were food related. If you wish to elaborate on your experience, please send us an email. Thank you.

The Sunday dinner was quite poor. We’ve had an amazing one in the past but not yhid one. Meet described as punk beef wasn’t and was fatty and chewy. Potatoes were dry, hard and not crispy and fluffy. Green veg was dry and undercooked. One carrot and one parsnip on the plate. Some watery gravy but then given a lumpy jug. Really disappointed. Two starters, 2 Sundays dinners and 2 drinks were £75, not worth it all. We won’t be back, it’s a shame as it’s a lovely venue but food gone downhill.

Amazing food, quite a few young families in which was quite distracting but I understand this is a family venue. Despite this good food and pleasant to see a varied 0 alcohol offering well done!!
