The Woodmans Arms is a beautiful ‘country feel’ pub and dining room situated within the village of Whickham, at the top of the hill, hidden amongst rows of spectacular trees. We are more than just a venue, we are a destination worth travelling to serving classic comforting food made with love, served in cosy surroundings overlooking the most amazing views of the North East.

We are the proud winner of the Newcastle Chronicle’s Eddy Eats’ pub of the year for character, quality, service and value. UK top 3 in the Seafish National Fish and Chip awards 2019 and Diners’ choice award for best ambience. Best British Pub Pie winner for 2020.

We support our local farmers, and work closely with a number of local suppliers to ensure the very best fresh produce. All our food is cooked freshly to order so whether it be a bar snack, light bite, leisurely lunch, evening meal or Sunday Roast it is safe to say that you will in safe hands.

The place itself is nice, service was extremely fast and attentive. We had 3 Sunday roasts (2 lamb & 1 beef sirloin) a pint of shandy, pint of Pepsi and a glass of tap water. Bill was £59.50 The meat was nice, roasted carrots and parsnips were also good and the gravy was delicious. Broccoli was almost raw (we all like crunchy veg but this was too much) Yorkshire pudding was very chewy. Roast potatoes were so hard they were difficult to cut let alone chew. We came for lunch as we’d recently eaten at a wedding in the Willows and the food was faultless then. We left this time feeling disappointed.

Amazing place for Sunday lunch, so beautiful inside and great outside area too. Food is really good and was so quick to arrive. Highly recommend

I had been looking forward to having Sunday lunch at Woodman's Arms for a long time so was really excited to finally have an opportunity. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Portions were very generous and the meat was delicious but much of the rest of my meal seemed to have suffered from being produced at scale and then kept hot for quick service. The Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were quite tough, the serving of green veg was predominantly made up of leeks with about half a dozen peas, and the side of cauliflower cheese was dried out on top and not very cheesy. My sticky toffee pudding wasn't as good as when I've ordered it before - the sponge was sadly less moist. Service was friendly but felt rushed, as if the main focus was on turnover of tables. I'll be back, because overall I do like coming, but I'm not necessarily sure I'll be rushing back for Sunday lunch.

Chicken supreme very tender and tasty. Described as chicken with jersey potatoes, unfortunately there were 2-3 tiny potatoes on the plate. Quite pricey for the amount of food.

Sunday roast was outstanding I wasn't a fan of the sticky toffee pudding I found it cold and hard but apart from that the dinner won hands down

Lovely meal, friendly, professional staff. Only downside was the shocking disabled access! We’ll definitely visit again once the access is sorted.
