As you would expect from a restaurant nestled on the coast of Northumberland, we have cast out the net when it comes to freshly caught local seafood. Staff excellent. Had a toddler as part of the party - they were very friendly & understanding. Eight adults had a variety of dishes including venison pie, monkfish tail Thai curry & steak. All dishes were great 😊

A really lovely meal. Sunday Lunch at its best. My husband had the Roast Beef, cooked to perfection, medium, whilst I had the Chicken Supreme which was succulent and tasty. All of the vegetables were lovely, with huge Yorkshire Puds. The service was quick and the staff really friendly. We would definitely come again. It was busy, so I would recommend booking.

The waiting staff were excellent. They were very attentive and made our meal very enjoyable. The Sunday lunch was very good

Whitling House was excellent in every respect, great choice and delicious food for starter, main course and desert. Good drinks with plenty of choice. Service was very friendly and prompt. Could not fault at all in anyway. Stayed overnight and rooms, breakfast and service were amazing too.

The best meal Ihave eaten in a long time! Brilliant service, varied menu, freshly cooked food and great ambience in the restaurant. Lovely to be able to bring our dog with us whilst we are on holiday, she was welcomed with open arms and everyone was very friendly and attentive!

Why we keep coming back, friendly staff and a great food. Always a smile and a lovely welcome as you come through the doors. Had the chowder to staff which is tasty. Love the fish and chip here, the batter is excellent, light and crisp. Then the special puddings are just amazing. Had a pudding from here the last three visits. All three of us that had pudding went for the specials with all enjoying the swiss roll, the cheesecake and I had the brownie. I love the fact you have your own jug of hot chocolate to add. Cant recommend the place enough if in the area.

The ambiance and surroundings were good, lovely place to eat and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful, service was quick as well. Wine list, good choice of wines and priced as expected in a restaurant. Food, sorry, presented well but very average! The starter (croquettes) were warm and more cheese than ham. I had the venison pie which was 10/10, the mash hadn’t seen any mustard and I only got one carrot! My wife had the risotto, it was only just warm and tasted quite bland. The food reminded us of a chain pub and not the fine dining experience we expected.

The place itself looked lovely. Very polite friendly quick welcome. I was shown to my seat and asked if I would like something to drink. I ordered the Sunday chicken roast dinner along with a side of green vegetables. Jess my server informed me that the meal included a serving of green vegetables so I cancelled that order. Thank you to Jess for here advice. The drink and the meal turned up in good time. All looked and smelled delicious. Chicken portion could have been a little larger but it was hot, tasty and moist. Also on the plate was a carrot, Yorkshire pudding, mash, roast potatoes and gravy. All of which were hot and delicious also. My only complaint is that there were only two roast potatoes and they were not crispy at all. Also a large serving of green vegetables was served with my meal. They were hot, perfectly cooked and delicious. I was glad I did not order the extra side of vegetables as advised by Jess. As well as the portion of green vegetables a portion of mashed swede and carrot, whole beetroot was supplied. Both were hot and delicious. I like beetroot, but it seemed a strange accompaniment for a roast dinner. For dessert I ordered the sticky toffee pudding and it was delicious. Great sponge, sauce and ice cream, but it was served with a little crumbled honeycomb which was lovely, but caused a bit of a sweetness overload. In total I was charged £40.14 which included a 10% service charge which was well deserved. So everything was great apart from the number and crispness of the roast potatoes and the addition of beetroot. I would definitely recommend a visit to The Whittling House. Thanks again Jess for your polite, friendly and professional service.

The food was excellent and the service was friendly and professional. The experience was marred by the fact that dogs aren't just welcome but amount to an infestation. So, if you prefer a quiet meal without barking then best avoided.
