Food was tasty and quantity was sufficient. Only negative, in my opinion and I complain all the time about this, is the automatic service charge. I would have left a tip in any case but surely its up to the customer to decide. How many people double tip with this system

We received a warm welcome and the service was friendly. The menu was varied and I chose the whole baked plaice special which was excellent. My husband chose the venison pie which was both tasty and a very generous portion. We would happily dine there again.

Food is excellent and the service is fabulous too. Wine selection for us was a little limited but not a problem unless your a wine buff! Would highly recommend a visit.

Excellent food and service. However, I was a little disappointed as I had informed the restaurant early on of my gluten free needs and there was only a cheap white gluten free bread available which did not match the quality of the overall food and high standard for the rest of the menu.

Our lamb was tough and gristly. My partners beef was great. Roast potatoes hard rather than fluffy. Service very good and ambience fantastic but overall disappointed. As a local so want a local restaurant to be really good. This was so average.

We ate here on a busy evening prior to Bank Holiday weekend, and were looking forward to dining here as having visited Alnmouth for the past three years but had never eaten in the Hotel. Despite it being busy we, unlike other guests were actually served fairly quickly. My husband had the cod and chips which was greasy and piled onto his plate - a very unappetising look. I chose the chicken which was delicious but didn’t have the vegetables as described on the menu and the sauce which included bacon lardons was disgusting. The latter were lumps of fatty meat and I had to leave them on my plate. My husbands choice of dessert was acceptable but I chose the mango cheesecake which I was told was home made- I don’t think so! It was glutinous and very sweet, quite unpleasant. The night before we ate at the Bistro next door; it was less expensive and perfect in every way. The Whittling House Hotel felt like a brewery chain pub and we will not be returning.

Very nice food . Only downside is the 10% automatic “discretionary” service Nice restaurant - they do not need to do this …

Delicious Lindisfarne oysters 🦪 Excellent silver hake with wild mushrooms and truffle sauce ~ which absolutely hit the spot. Cheery and friendly service.
