Great food in lovely surroundings. Good selection of wines to choose from. The menu variety offered even choices for you to be able to select something without feeling overwhelmed with the decision. A cocktail pre or post dinner by the open fire 👌🏽

Loved it. The food is excellent, I had the specials menu and hubby had the al la Carte. It was our wedding anniversary and everyone was friendly and lovely.

From the outset we knew we were going to have a lovely evening; beautiful interior, very welcoming staff who made sure both we and our dog were comfortable and had all that we needed. Staff were very knowledgeable about the menu, and service was excellent. All around us were other equally happy diners. We will definitely return.

Food was good, mussels and prawn cocktail were excellent, potatoes on the sea bream were burnt excessively, dauphinois was a little lacking in flavour. Bacon chop was good, crispy egg was perfect but the blue cheese sauce was thin and tasteless. Chocolate delice was absolutely stunning but the apple tart tasted bought in a cheap. Drinks and cocktails were good but at nearly £100 per head (we did have a good bottle of wine & 2 cocktails each) we thought the food was a little overpriced. And the prices charged it should be bang on and it just wasn’t. We’ve now been quite a few times and food has always been a little hit and miss. Might skip the whittling house next holiday and find somewhere new.

This was our first visit to The Whittling House and it was perfect in 99% of what it had to offer. The interiors were tidy and clean, the staff were exceptional, ALL of them, the food what we visited there for was fantastic, we had a Sunday Roast and despite booking a table and the restaurant being very busy, everything was brilliant. The one small note to mention would be that the bar area probably could do with a few more seats, for either before you eat or certainly after you eat. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would 100% recommend a visit.

Cosy areas, good Sunday lunch menu choices with a range of roasts, lots of starters and interesting desserts. We all enjoyed crepes suzette for dessert (although after 2 courses already noone needed dessert!). Service friendly and prompt,

Dined here on Sat 26 October. Serving staff were lovely and very helpful. Unfortunately the food was a let down, despite the menu looking great and being short. Haddock chowder was too thin, more milky than creamy. Trout roulade was ok. Butternut ravioli turned out to be tortellini; some of the pasta was a bit hard as in uncooked, not al dente. It was smothered in sauce and too much wilted spinach; it looked really unappetising when it arrived; just an orange mess in a bowl. Tried to give it benefit of the doubt/looks but didn’t win me over. Not value at all for £22. Venison pie was good. Feedback was given to the staff at the time and hope it is taken in the spirit in which it was given. Must admit a gesture of some reduction would have been appreciated but none offered.

Had high hopes as I love The Potted Lobster but this was disappointing. V quiet when my daughter and I arrived around 5:30 but still had to find a member of staff to seat us. The service was very good after this initial blip. Ate around 6-6:30 - the cod special with dauphinoise and a side of green veg and the chicken burger with avocado. The cod special was £29 and the fish was superb, the dauphinoise did not taste homemade and was average, the veg super overcooked and therefore very soft. Large portion though. The burger looked good and my daughter enjoyed it, she left some chips as they were not cooked through. The restaurant started to get busier around 7-7:30 and therefore the ambience improved. Overall nowhere near the quality of its sister restaurants. Would not return or recommend.
