The White Lion, which is owned and run by the Holmes family, is a beautifully renovated village pub situated in Niton on the Isle of Wight.
Our aim is to provide fantastic fresh tasty food created with as much local produce as possible, with an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. Our pub has been awarded 1 AA Rosette for outstanding food and service; read more about what our Rosette means below.
Our pub is the perfect place to eat and drink on the Isle of Wight, whether you are wanting a beautifully curated tasting menu, a quick pint of traditional local ale or you simply want to stop by for a hot drink and catch up with friends, we can accommodate you. We offer a family orientated and dog friendly pub with a small children's play area to keep them entertained whilst you can relax and enjoy your time here with us.

Fantastic Sunday afternoon roast ! Good value for money the pork was cooked to perfection, beef was tender and tasty if a little bit well cooked for my liking. Service was first class and my little bite decided he did didn’t want gravy, they changed his dinner for fresh with no problem at all . Nice sides and all piping hot ! Will definitely be back on our next visit to the island

The food was poor. I ordered the Crab mac and cheese off the specials board. I did point out to server (who was both helpful and polite) that the taste of the dried parsley completely overpowered the crab. Even the cheese couldn't be tasted through the dried parsley. Overall it tasted like the cod in parsley sauce you get at school. The stodgey consistency did it no favours either. There was no response from the kitchen when I pointed this out. I highlighted the fact that my husband's meal of seafood risotto came with 3 mussels in the shell, one of which hadn't opened when cooked so ofcourse, should never have been served up. Again, no response from the kitchen.

Really lovely meal. Great service. Young man behind the bar was outstanding so deserves an extra mention. The rest of the staff were really good as well. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Going to book again for Tuesday night before we leave the island.

Excellent service and nice setting but food was expensive and not great. The chips were really nice but my steak was chewy and the sticky toffee pudding was tiny.

We arrived as a walk in on a busy night but staff were very helpful in accommodating us and enjoyed a lovely meal. We liked it so much we made a booking the next day and had a delicious Sunday dinner.

I would not recommend The White Lion - Ventnor. Website misleading as thought there was a carvery. All 4 of us had a roast. Clearly not cooked fresh(on a Sunday) meat overcooked, roast potatoes very overcooked. Informed the server but we received no comeback. Decided to have a pudding to make up for the meal, again clearly heated up in the microwave, plates very hot, pudding cold. On paying the bill, they could not easily split it between the four, ended up paying more than we should have. Not intending on a return visit.

We apologize for the misinformation on the site, this was corrected straight away, however on the Sunday menu it does explain that this is a plated roast. We can assure you that all food, including meat , is cooked fresh on the day. If you choose to visit us again we hope you have a more enjoyable experience.

We arrived on time and got drinks and menu pretty quickly. However then waited for 20 mins before we could grab someone to take our order. Then, after 15 minutes we were told 2 of our meals from the main menu were no longer available. So took nearly an hour to get our food.

I had the chicken kiev, which unfortunately was quite dry and had virtually no garlic butter. We were sat in a large room at the back of the pub . It felt more like a schoolroom and had little atmosphere. However staff friendly and service ok
