The White Lion, which is owned and run by the Holmes family, is a beautifully renovated village pub situated in Niton on the Isle of Wight.
Our aim is to provide fantastic fresh tasty food created with as much local produce as possible, with an elegant and relaxed atmosphere. Our pub has been awarded 1 AA Rosette for outstanding food and service; read more about what our Rosette means below.
Our pub is the perfect place to eat and drink on the Isle of Wight, whether you are wanting a beautifully curated tasting menu, a quick pint of traditional local ale or you simply want to stop by for a hot drink and catch up with friends, we can accommodate you. We offer a family orientated and dog friendly pub with a small children's play area to keep them entertained whilst you can relax and enjoy your time here with us.

Smart modern decor for an old pub. Great service with big smiles. Tasty food served quite quickly. Waitress came to check we were all happy & if we required any sauces.

Super friendly service, interesting menu. Caters for all tastes. Was a recommended place to eat and it was reasonable. We shared the Arancini. Looks like the rocket that it should have come with wasn’t available as we had a salad mix instead! ;-) ordered a haddock and chips and a scampi. Got 2 haddock. Realised they’d put in the till wrong, apologised and came back with haddock and a scampi. Food tasty. Service friendly. Will return, good choice menu all round. Could just do with being busier!

Great value for money. Delicious. Fast attentive service. Lovely pleasant staff. A delight to visit, will try to go back again before the end of our holiday.

We had our 2 dogs with us as we were staying in the Island. Accommodated us with a quiet corner table - no problems. Quick and friendly service. Good value food. Thank you

We booked a Sunday Roast with the White Lion and were seated in the larger dinning area. There was a selection of beef, gammon, roast belly pork plus a couple of vegetarian options. I did like it that there were options available for smaller portion sizes, two meats etc. Husband selected beef and pork, my friend had pork whilst I chose just beef, all in the small quantity choice. The portion size was perfect for our needs. I had 2 roast potatoes, some long stem broccoli, two generous slices of beef and a huge Yorkshire pudding. We also had bowls of red cabbage, carrots and cauliflower cheese, all adequate sizes to share between the 3 of us. So why the low score? Upon arrival, plates were lukewarm, with the exposed slice of beef just warm (the other slice, under the Yorkshire fared better). We could only eat the florets of the long stem broccoli as the stems were almost raw, however it was the roast potatoes which were the biggest disappointment. I’m not sure when then were roasted, but they too were just warm and you couldn’t get into them. They were the toughest roast potatoes I had ever had! I had to leave both of mine as I couldn’t cut through them. All in all, we just felt the lunch was “OK”.

We do encourage our customers to alert a member of our staff if you are not happy with anything during your visit as they will always be more than willing to 'make it right' and ensure you do not leave feeling dissapointed. We had a very nice meal and the service was excellent. A short walk from where we were staying so was ideal.

We had a great meal served by very friendly, accommodating staff. We look for dog friendly places to eat and here they made a fuss of our dog and gave her some treats and brought a bowl of water, for her. We had one problem, and that was finding The White Lion. The one way streets seemed to fool our sat nav. Certainly a place to return to.
