Based in Greetham, The Wheatsheaf is 6 miles from Oakham and 4 miles from Rutland Water. Carol and Scott took over the Wheatsheaf in March 2008. The seasonal Modern British menu changes weekly. The wine list is based on wines from around the world with a good selection by the glass. We also have an excellent selection of beers and local cask ales.

In 2021 The Wheatsheaf was a new entry in The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastro Pubs and was also awarded The Michelin Red Plate.

We are closed on Mondays and Tuesday except Bank Holidays.

I’d heard lots of good things about the wheatsheaf but never managed to experience it personally. Booking in for Sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Small, intimate but bright dining room. Warm, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Attentive without being pushy. The food was outstanding and it’s just a great place to dine.

I have been wanting to try the Wheatsheaf for sometime now. With friends visiting for the weekend it gave us the perfect opportunity to book for Sunday lunch. I was very impressed by The attentive service and also the speed of service. We were not kept waiting at any point and lunch was served very quickly as with chinks. I have to say it must be one of the most incredible Yorkshire puddings I’ve ever seen! As someone who enjoys cooking and feels that I am good at Yorkshires myself this one was a game changer! The home-made horseradish sauce was a revelation too!

Amazing food and amazing service! Unspoilt village pub with a real emphasis on proper on site freshly prepared food. It was my Mums Birthday and they had even gone to the trouble of getting her a birthday card. Brilliant team

The service was great and the restaurant had a nice feel, but the chairs must be about the most uncomfortable we have ever sat in, and the menu choice was not quite to our taste. We very much enjoyed the meal we had, but we would have struggled for a second choice of starters or mains.

We are long-term fans of Carol's cooking and Scott runs a super-slick front of house. This visit, we both had duck as a main after baked Camembert starter. Probably the best duck breast we have ever tasted served on an island of green vegetables dressed with a pea jus, and accompanied with a bruschetta slice - divine! Highly recommended for something well above the ordinary at sensible prices.
