Based in Greetham, The Wheatsheaf is 6 miles from Oakham and 4 miles from Rutland Water. Carol and Scott took over the Wheatsheaf in March 2008. The seasonal Modern British menu changes weekly. The wine list is based on wines from around the world with a good selection by the glass. We also have an excellent selection of beers and local cask ales.

In 2021 The Wheatsheaf was a new entry in The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastro Pubs and was also awarded The Michelin Red Plate.

We are closed on Mondays and Tuesday except Bank Holidays.

My guests experienced a puncture as they left London and warned they would be late. I cancelled my reservation as they anticipated arriving when the kitchen had closed. They had an easy trip and arrived In Stamford only a little later than anticipated. I left a message that we would be coming any way and we found a very enthusiastic welcome from the owner and staff. We all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, just as good as the first time we used this establishment and are sure we shall use it again later in the year when we revisit Barnsdale Gardens.

Excellent table service - knowledgable table staff who were helpful and unobtrusive. Food menu interesting, ad snails on the menu of a local pub at unchtime is very rare! Our guest said they were delicious. Beautiful homemade chips and tiger prawns Pleasant environment, and as we had a very elderly gent with us, their kindness and support was A1!

Excellent all round. Our first visit, but hopefully many more to come. Food was superb, enhanced by the very good wine parings and recommendations. Really lovely meal, highly recommend.

The food was lovely and had a nice table. However, waiting to get our menu brought over and someone to take our order seemed to take along line considering the restaurant was far from full. But the food was lovely when we received it and very good value for money

It’s worth the 4.9 reviews here. Food was delicious. We had the beef and the duck breast. Best pub in the area. We will certainly comeback.

We booked at short notice today based on excellent reviews. The staff were welcoming and polite and we were shown directly to our table even though we were 20 minutes early. The decor and general presentation of the premises were clean but rather stark and somewhat clinical which rather detracted from any ambience which could have been achieved but was almost entirely missing. We both chose roast beef as a main course from the Sunday lunch menu. Overall the meal was unremarkable. We won’t be rushing to go back.
