Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer may be within easy reach of the A1 and M6 but it still feels totally rural. A traditional white-washed inn complete with leaded lights and swinging sign, The Wensleydale Heifer gives the visitor a real flavour of Britain meaning it’s popular not only with locals but with tourists searching for the real Yorkshire. From the lounge, with its comfortable leather settees, country pursuit paintings and imposing fireplace through to the wicker seating, beamed ceilings and eau de nil painted walls, the interior could have leapt from the pages of Country Homes magazine. The contemporary British menu includes seaood from across Britain plus locally sourced meat and veg, all prepared using the Wensleydale Heifer philosophy – keep it simple.

I had the fixed menu ,excellent smoked salmon mouse,followed by a large steak pie. The pie was superb,beef high quality,peas and gravey so tasty and as for the puff pastry.... The staff were attentive,making it a very pleasurable experience.THANK YOU.

As ever, a superb culinary experience. Outstanding choice, my party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our meals…from the starters through to the end. Absolutely delicious and always served with smiles. We are long standing visitors and we always come away feeling it was an amazing time.

Came with two young children and two dogs… all 4 were very welcomed and looked after. Food was excellent and good sized portions as well.

Amazing meal - we had 3 courses and a lovely bottle of wine! All the staff are so lovely and helpful and attentive! A brilliant experience and we will definitely be back!

We had a lovely meal , no complaints at all about the food , there was just no real welcome , no atmosphere. I would love to think we would go back , and stay , that why we tried lunch first !!!! The Jury’s out .

We drive to the Heifer, which is over 100 miles every other month for lunch - Why- because we love everything about the Heifer I had the Turbot which was outstanding and the service, the location and of course the food is always good , We are going to book a stayover for my birthday in November It is that enjoyable Peter

This was our first visit with our Doberman at the WH and it most certainly will not be our last. Service was first class, staff very friendly and efficient. The food was incredible, can not wait to return .

Everything about this restaurant was perfect. We headed to Wensleydale Heifer for my partners birthday, where they left a balloon. It’s the little details that go a long way. The food and drink was delicious - we had the Beef Wellington and Salmon Escalope with creamed spinach - all definitely worth trying! The staff were attentive but still gave us enough privacy. If we come back to the area, I’ll definitely be returning. Thank you for making this a special evening for us.
