The Violet Hour lives up to all the superlatives. Each of the four cocktails we tried were inventive without being party tricks. Delicious and perfectly balanced as only a top notch creative team can do. Bartenders were friendly, bar patrons were friendly. My only regret is that I'm not in Chicago often enough to become a regular.

Great service great atmosphere, special occasion or date night I would recommend. They do special requests for example proposals. My girlfriend liked the presentation. onwer was real cool too

Our reservation was at 5pm on Saturday 10/19 which is the time that Violet Hour was supposed to open. I arrived at 4:55 and the front door was locked and there were several other parties waiting outside, which was fine as it was a few minutes before opening. However, 5:00 came and went and the front door remained locked. Just after 5:15, a worker came out of the door so someone tried to walk in and the hostess said they weren’t ready yet and would be ready in a few minutes and to continue to wait outside. After another 10 minutes, a Violet Hpur employee opened the door and asked everyone to form a line to come inside. At that point, there were a lot of people waiting outside and we ended up towards the end of the line because we didn’t want to be pushy. It took a while for them to seat the whole line. I checked my phone when we got up to the host stand, and it was a little past 5:30 which meant we were being seated 30 minutes after our reservation and I had been waiting outside for nearly 40 minutes. This was a problem because 1) that is a long time to be waiting outside and 2) we had a dinner reservation somewhere else for a little after 6 so we knew we would be rushed and it ruined our plan of enjoying nice cocktails before dinner. We ended up going inside anyway and ordered one round of drinks. The drinks themselves and the atmosphere were great, we were just rushed and couldn’t enjoy it fully. Additionally, there weren’t any apologies or discounts etc. offered for opening late and seating us significantly after our reservation time.

We waited for almost 45 minutes to be seated even with a reservation. They did provide a complimentary drink but given that they have auch a strict rule about being timely or else one is charged a $10 per customer fee it seems unfair. We were celebrating a birthday which we indicated on our reservation but it was not considered or acknowledged. The wait staff seemed to be irritated to serve us and rather dismissive and condescending. Overall it’s was ok but nothing to rave about or go back to.

Bartenders were friendly and attentive. Drinks are complex and good. Lots of mixing of alcohols which I think most people like. I prefer a mix of flavor profiles and/or simpler drinks. Old fashion was delicious. Ambiance is mediocre nothing elaborate or special. One note they don’t honor reservations on time. Meaning we had a 10:00 reservation but weren’t seated until 10:25. Several other customers showed up and had the same scenario. Could be an opportunity to have a better system to manage/seat reservation. We had another engagement to attend this evening so had to rush/cut our time short.

Our server was solid. The ambiance of the place is special. We didn't have the best table/seat in the house, but we really enjoyed the experience, food, drinks and conversation. Been wanting to go for years

Love the concept. I found the drinks interesting but a little overcomplicated for the actual taste/results. One of the bartenders was really friendly and the overall knowledge of the staff was impressive. The bartender that actually served us was not as warm or friendly! But I guess it takes all types! Overall we found the experience interesting and we don’t regret trying it out! But definitely go expecting to spend $$$$!

Had a wonderful experience! The drinks were great, and I really enjoyed the intimate ambiance. I look forward to coming back and trying more of the drinks.
