The Turf has been one of Devon's favourite destinations since 1827.

A Grade-II listed Georgian pub situated on a private peninsula, we can be reached only by foot, bike or boat.

Enjoy our panoramic waterside location with uninterrupted views across the Exe Estuary, Exeter Canal and Powderham Estate. Our unique location provides the ultimate outdoor adventure and immersion in the area's natural beauty - a tranquil haven to relax, unwind and escape.

Whether in our cosy indoor alcoves or extensive garden grounds, feast on a menu that celebrates seasonal produce from the South West's finest suppliers, curated by chef Rob Dawe.

The food was incredible - such a tasty Sunday Roast. Friendly service - relaxed atmosphere - will definitely reject this experience.

We had a wonderful lunch with friends on what was a cloudy Monday in October. I booked ahead as we had 3 dogs and the forecast was variable. We walked along the canal and arrived to a cheery welcome - sat by the river for drinks, watching the boats and the World go by. Bliss. We then ventured inside where we had the perfect table (in the window) reserved for us. The window table are great if you have a group or dogs because you can be part of the pub atmosphere but can tuck yourselves / the dogs out if the way. The food was immense. We all had something different and the quality of all of the dishes was of a very high standard. Great fish, chunky chips and mushy peas; a sublime chowder; a huge slated ploughman’s (even though they’d run out of pork pies they replaced this with a warm sausage roll! Yummy!) and a Bean burger with all the trimmings. We were able to eat great food and have cool drinks whilst catching up with our friends in a warm, friendly atmosphere before heading back out along the canal for a (slower) saunter along the canal. Perfect. Thank you.

Really impressed!! Made a mistake with numbers of people on booking table and staff were quick to do a bit of switching around and find us a bigger table. All of us went for the roast and everyone said it was one of the nicest we had had in years. Fact it is so kid and dog friendly made it even easier for us all to get together for the first time in years. Keep doing what you are doing Turf team....as long as i can still get a table for another roast.

What a lovely place. Food and service was excellent. Well worth the walk to it...in fact, the walk is a good reason of going anyway (on a lovely day) the views are well worth going for on their own, but you would be disappointed if you hadn't booked when you got there and couldn't enjoy a meal as well because it was full! We parked south in the church carpark (make sure you put parking donation in) and it was a dry [cycle and foot] path to get there. The north road was flooded and I wasn't risking driving through it, but the south carpark option was fine - only 7mins away near Powderham. It was an hours drive for us to get there, but will definitely go again. RW

First visit and a fantastic experience. Unique setting and was worth the 10 minute drive walk from the car park. Service and food cannot fault

Turf is always special but particularly so out of summer season on a grey autumn day for Sunday lunch. And what a Sunday lunch, beautiful beef, pork or half a chicken plus all the sides (the only thing that would have made it better was extra gravy). Great puddings, too. Everything was so good and service was efficient and friendly even though it was very crowded. Very glad that Turf will be open over winter and looking forward to Supper Clubs too.

A friendly and attentive service and great value. A welcoming pub with quirky atmosphere in a unique location, a must visit. Also recommend taking the Topsham Turf ferry just to add to the occasion.

We had a fabulous meal with friends at lunchtime which was presented beautifully. The service at the bar and food was friendly and efficient. We will certainly come again soon. Only one issue for us which is not to do with the hotel but it was overrun with wasps. This made our experience less than pleasant. Hopefully the wasps will blow away 🤣.

Really nice food at sensible prices. Only negative was that they wouldn't run a tab, so each course or round of drinks had to be paid for at the time of ordering. This made it difficult when sharing a meal with friends. No parking at the venue, nearest car park was ¾ mile away, but was free. Would definitely go again.
