Welcome to The Tempus at Charlton Hall Estate.

AFTERNOON TEA, please note, please use the afternoon tea experiences. This booking section is for lunch or dinner only. Thank you.

Whether you are joining us for lunch, afternoon tea, or dinner, we present an array of enticing menus for your pleasure. Our à la carte menu highlights the finest local talent and ingredients, while our afternoon tea features an elegant assortment of delectable sweet and savoury delights.

Well behaved 4 legged friends are very welcome until 7pm in our bar.

Lunch service from 12pm – 4.45pm Wednesday - Saturday.

Afternoon tea – 2.45pm – 4.30pm Wednesday – Saturday.

A la carte dining from 5pm daily.

Sunday lunch from 12pm.

Our bar and snug is open all day, daily, for coffee, tea, drinks and bar snacks.

Please note that we offer Afternoon Tea every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Pre-Booking is required no later than 48 hours ahead of your booking. Please use experiences section.

Say hello to Afternoon Tea at The Tempus! (Hey Parents, we are also offering a Children's Afternoon Tea, treat your little munchkins for £18.95, just let us know how many children in the party in the notes!!!!) Indulge in a mouth-watering selection of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and a delicious array of miniature cakes and pastries. However we do require 48 hours notice as everything is prepared on the day for you. Our brand-new menu has been carefully designed by our very own pastry chef, Catherine Smith, using freshly sourced ingredients from Northumberland and the Borders. Need we say more? Afternoon Tea will be served every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Pre-booking is required 48hrs before.

The Tempus is a lovely place. Lovely bar area and outside terrace. We had afternoon tea good selection of sandwiches , tasty sausage roll and small quiche. Lovely choice of small cakes and scones.

Vegetarian food really dull. Why do chefs appear to want to penalise anyone who fancies a plant based meal by putting so little thought and effort into the options available? Plant based food can be exciting and nourishing. I wonder if there is someone the chef could turn to for advice and ideas.

Receptionists, Amy and Nicki, were charming and helpful. Liz and Lucy saw to our needs at the table professionally and pleasantly. The food was great, and the Orangery is a delightful setting. A really enjoyable experience.

Been to many afternoon teas n this one was near top end. Bit pricey compared to most. Food was really good n plentiful as we had to take some home. The gentleman that served us was very pleasant n nothing was a bother. Defo recommend.

Fabulous meal & wonderful mocktails. Staff lovely. Service a little slow on first drink order - which seemed a little odd as not a busy evening.

We had a lovely family meal at The Tempus for Father’s Day! Nothing was a problem for the amazing staff, food was superb, and our children can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful setting, gorgeous interior decor, great service. The food is really good even though its a limited choice menu, it is absolutely worth visiting

I enjoyed the menu choices but found the lamb livers to be over cooked on the outside. The place was lovely but the sauce was lacking in flavour

Perhaps we chose a bad evening to dine at the Tempus, but we had a very long wait (30 minutes) before even finding out what the soup, pasta and pie of the day were. The fish and chips had sold out. My starter of mussels was delicious, but although my husband's starter of Craster kipper with cheese croquettes was tasty, there were only a few flakes of kipper on his plate. The 'lush' pie of the day was fish pie, which had been on the menu the night before. It arrived in a small dish with mussels, something my husband hates, pushed into the potato topping and was served without any vegetable, just chips or mash. Sadly, I didn't enjoy my main course of rainbow trout either. Far too much pastry and tomatoes. Disappointing and poor value for money.

We have a great team of chef's and are always happy to adapt any dishes wherever possible. Please do let us know in future when we check back as we will change anything for you if we know, your husband said the fish pie was lovely, despite hating mussels, so we didn't know anything was wrong at all at this point, only now, when sadly we cannot change the outcome.
