The Tartan Fox by Adam Handling

Welcome to our British restaurant and pub, with gardens, in the picturesque countryside of Cornwall, between Truro and Newquay. We offer sustainable British pub food, with a luxury approach. It’s a simple offering but really showcases the best of produce from in and around Cornwall. Our Sunday lunch is perfect to come and enjoy with your friends and family (and your dogs are more than welcome too!).

    Food was good. The only thing that was the problem is the music level was too loud. Loud 80’s music really spoiled the ambience of the place and made it seem very cheap. Scotch egg could have come with a bit more other than a dollop of ketchup but the roast potatoes were very good. Could of been a bit bigger on the fillet in the Wellington for £32 too On the whole we would go back for a second try. We both run a place to eat and are chefs so I’m being honest not hypercritical for the sake of it.

    2nd visit for us since it opened approx 6 weeks ago. We are big fans of Adams’s restaurants and this is the 3rd one we’ve visited. The setting is lovely, the food is delicious, but the service here seems to be inconsistent. Our first visit on a Sunday evening was AMAZING, so we decided to take 3 of our adult children (who have all been to the Ugly Butterfly with us several times before and love it!). 2nd visit on a busier Friday evening was so disappointing. Upon arrival our table which was booked for 5, was only set up for 3 people. Staff scrambled round to get more chairs and place settings. Service the whole time was slow and disjointed. The table next to us who were seated AFTER us, were tucking in to their starters and we hadn’t even got a drink in front of us. Our ‘snacks’ arrived and I asked for some cutlery to be told “its meant to be finger food” All well and good, but spreading chicken butter with your fingers would be a little messy I imagine! We are a large local family, who often dine out. We’d hoped this could become our ‘go to’ local for a bite to eat and nice atmosphere but honestly our 2nd experience has put us off going again.

    Previously always enjoyed the former Fox revenge but the Tartan Fox clearly another level. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Intensities of flavour, subtle where appropriate. This is what I imagine the great British menu tastes like. Very highly recommended.

    The service could not be faulted, very attentive. Food was delicious best in the area

    Brilliant. Food was interesting, tasty, service great, the pub itself is great. The only issue I would say is the portions are very small. The lamb on the “larger menu” was tapas size. £180 for 2 people, 4 courses and sides and we could have eaten more However, I will be straight back. Probably order more sides . Really good overall great addition to Newquays food options

    Delicious food. Beautifully presented. Slightly expensive. Staff are very attentive and very friendly and helpful. The tables aren’t all top of each other, so it feels roomy. Dog friendly which is good for us. We’ve eaten twice in 3 weeks there, and I would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone.

    The food was absolutely sublime. Really enjoyed it. Shame we live 8hrs away, as we would go again!
