We asked for the sauce to be left off of a burger. It wasn’t. But there was never anyone to tell. No one ever came to check if we needed anything, not even a second drink. We finally got the waitress to bring the bill. We told her our burger wasn’t as requested and so it was mostly uneaten but for a couple of bites. She was unconcerned, rang up the overpriced meal and walked away. The atmosphere looked fun. But I guess, you can’t mess up a beer.

The roast was cold! The ramp for the wheelchair didn’t fit the door frame level.

The Surprise is a beautiful pub, lovely staff but I think as we booked the table at 5pm on a Sunday the food felt like it had been sitting around all day and tasted stale. Such a shame as we were excited to viist as it was Father's day.

Everyone was really nice apart from the lady at the front (who checked us in) who told us we had to fold our pram. Felt like she had no consideration for us with a child even though there were other people there with babies and kids who were treated better. The rest of the staff were so lovely, smiley and helpful and for that reason we will definitely come back.

I hadn't been in for sometime and was very pleasantly surprised by the food. The staff were very friendly and helpful

After a quick drink outside we were shown to our table upstairs by the window. The view is lovely up there and the room was bright and comfortable. As more people were seated the atmosphere was relaxed and convivial. The food was absolutely excellent. Starters were obviously homemade in a good way. My beef carpaccio was like very thin slices of roast; pink in the middle and cooked on the outside. Delicious. My wifes ham and chicken terrine had lovely chunks of meat with lots of flavour. The steak and lamb mains were excellent quality and cooked as requested. Along side this were the sides which really added to the dish. Puddings were great and all washed down with a bottle of Chianti. Service was friendly and we weren’t rushed and the food came at good intervals. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere upstairs.
