Located in the heart of the Goodwood Estate and surrounded by the South Downs National Park, The Star & Garter in East Dean offers a delicious selection of freshly cooked, local and seasonal food in a charming dining space with red brick and oak beams. Just a mile down the hill from Goodwood Race Course we are 12 minutes drive from Chichester. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner we try to source our ingredients as locally and as seasonally as possible. Whether you are at a Goodwood Event or walking, cycling or just out for a drive and fancy a decent meal at reasonable prices, we like to think we are one of the best around. We have a great courtyard and garden space which can seat up to 100 people. Freshly ground coffee is available all day. With a mixture of local people and tourists there's always a warm welcome here.

Great food . Oysters amongst the best I have ever tasted. Very attentive staff and most of all great value. We will be going back😀

Possibly the best roast dinner i have had out!!! Nice atmosphere - the garden was packed and they had live entertainment too ... what a great local! We will be back :)

Staff friendly but didn’t feedback on complaints Shitako mushrooms burnt miso missing. Wine markup at nearly 200%

I am sorry there seems to have been a problem with mushrooms but using a public forum to make an allegation that we are marking wine up 200% is ridiculous and without fact. I don't know where you buy your wine from but show me where you get the exact same wine at a price that allows 200% mark up and I will point my supplier to it. I would much rather chat face to face but people tend to use review forums more nowadays as they feel it gives them the right to tell made up facts and untruths. Critique is always acceptable as it should be, I believe, but it's very unfair of you to become a wine expert making unsubstantiated claims that we mark up any product at 200%. But to avoid any doubt I assume you saw the wine list and could have chosen not to drink wine , knowing the alleged markup!!!

We enjoy coming to the Star and Garter, particulalrly when it is warm enough to sit outside. The management were their normal very friendly and helpful selves. Sadly this time we found the menu less interesting than previous times. We had the Cornish sole which was OK, but not special. It was not the management's fault that there was a party near us who had a rather noisy little boy, who they did nothing to quieten. Hopefully next time the menu may have changed and we will be able to sit outside I wish the management well

Very good menu with plenty of choice. The food is superbly cooked and well presented. Good beer too. Strong wine list but limited selection of wines by the glass. Well worth a visit.
