Located in the heart of the Goodwood Estate and surrounded by the South Downs National Park, The Star & Garter in East Dean offers a delicious selection of freshly cooked, local and seasonal food in a charming dining space with red brick and oak beams. Just a mile down the hill from Goodwood Race Course we are 12 minutes drive from Chichester. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner we try to source our ingredients as locally and as seasonally as possible. Whether you are at a Goodwood Event or walking, cycling or just out for a drive and fancy a decent meal at reasonable prices, we like to think we are one of the best around. We have a great courtyard and garden space which can seat up to 100 people. Freshly ground coffee is available all day. With a mixture of local people and tourists there's always a warm welcome here.

    We enjoy coming to the Star and Garter, particulalrly when it is warm enough to sit outside. The management were their normal very friendly and helpful selves. Sadly this time we found the menu less interesting than previous times. We had the Cornish sole which was OK, but not special. It was not the management's fault that there was a party near us who had a rather noisy little boy, who they did nothing to quieten. Hopefully next time the menu may have changed and we will be able to sit outside I wish the management well

    Very good menu with plenty of choice. The food is superbly cooked and well presented. Good beer too. Strong wine list but limited selection of wines by the glass. Well worth a visit.

    excellent and imaginative menu. always something new to try. comfortable seating in the bar area which makes it very cosy we will be visiting again during the Goodwood horse racing season

    The food was truly amazing, we had a burger and it was the best I had eaten in a while. It was fresh and served with a bit of seasonal wild garlic inside. The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. We were served quickly. Very happy and wanted to let a review as they deserve it

    Only had the fish finger sandwich but that was excellent with top notch fries. The menu all looked great so we will be back to try the other offerings. Staff were very friendly and the house ale very quaffable.
