Built in 1839 on an old archery range, this pub quickly became a cherished neighbourhood meeting spot and was frequented by notable locals throughout its history, from Winston Churchill to Tony Blair.

To honour the historical roots of the establishment, offer our take on the quintessential British gastro pub. We aim to be London's only gastro pub sourcing all of our ingredients from the British Isles, and where that is not possible, we look to source ingredients from countries and territories with close links to Britain, such as our lemons from Gibraltar. Our Head Chef champions British produce through culinary favourites such as steak, fish pie, and the classic treacle pudding.Our unique drinks & wine list is also fully sourced from sustainable vineyards, breweries and distilleries across Britain

                                            Excellent food in a nice atmosphere. Service was friendly, a little slow but not bad. Really enjoyed the experience, would definitely eat here again!

                                            Really excellent traditional British food. We went there twice during our short stay, once for the Sunday roast and once a la carte. Both yummy! Friendly and professional service.

                                            Business meal for 6 which was somewhat disappointing versus the posted ratings and I would not be recommending it to any of my 100+ colleagues. Table for 6 was shoehorned into the corner, which for 2 of the diners they had little space and for one their chair back was against a table for 2 which probably ruined their dining experience also being so close to others not in their party. Took a long time to get the initial drinks orders (20-30 minutes?) which didnt seem right. The drinks were good and a nice selection. Music was a little too loud which made it harder than it should have to have a conversation. In fairness the table for 6 was under the speakers, so may not be the same experience for other diners. Music was great through. Asked the waiter a specific question about the pies - where they fully encased in pastry or just a pastry lid (not a real pie imo). I even asked with hand signals. I was informed they were fully encased. I think the waiter was not listening properly as both pies were only pastry lids in a ceramic bowl. The pies were also average taste at best, and the Steak Pie we sent back and we asked for a replacement Steak instead. Mixed responses on the other meals from fair to great.

                                            I feel conflicted writing this because the food was very good and the watering/serving staff very friendly and amicable, when interacting with them. The issue was the level of service was lacking, disjointed & very disorganised. The space is small, tables are on top of each other but last night the place was understaffed. 4 or 5 tables gesturing for attention, us waiting 20 minutes after seated to order a drink & still not given a menu. Forgotten drinks orders, plates not cleared, different staff, taking drinks orders, taking food orders and clearing. Very haphazard. I want to emphasise the food was brilliant, the staff friendly, but the service standard & organisation was very poor.

                                            Lovely roast dinner overall but proportions of beef and pork each rather meagre. All beautifully cooked and presented. Sticky toffee pudding was lovely too

                                            The ambience was very relaxing and quiet for a Sunday afternoon lunch. Our waitress was so helpful and very friendly. Unfortunately service was a little slow, despite pre booking it took 1 hour to receive our food. The quality of the food was good but it was a little cold and not worth £25 (I would have expected more vegetables and more than 2 roast potatoes).

                                            Really excellent place, nice food, good prices, friendly staff and lovely location, decor and ambiance. Background music is excellent too! Was for a business lunch and entirely appropriate, but a family would enjoy too, as would tourists (and there were several) as it’s very British in food and decor. Top venue! Thanks.
