I thought the food was ok but nothing special. I had the Wednesday night duck frites. The ambience was cool Design wise but very loud as the restaurant was packed. Service was polite but slow due to the crowds I imagine.

Fantastic food and service. The only negative is that the kitchen was running slow and it took a while for our food to come out.

I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a terrific brunch place in DC. The egg dishes come with a choice of a cocktail. I had the Avocado Toast and a Bloody Mary (I had it without alcohol since I don’t drink). The chef used spice to enhance the flavor without being overpowering. The fresh bread was excellent. The location is excellent if you’re going to the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery which is across the street.

Overall, this is a good restaurant in a sea of restaurants in the Penn district. We actually first ate here on 19 Oct and gave it three stars. Unbelievably, the restaurant contacted me and offered a $100 gift card to give them another try at a better experience. So, we did. The experience was slightly better. The food remains excellent and the brunch price with included cocktail was very reasonable compared to similar D.C. establishments. The wait staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and our seating was in a better location free from jostling. However, most of the same problems still existed telling me they are systemic. Pacing was again horrible. Our appetizer of raw oysters came with the main meal, making us feel rushed and cluttering a small table. The cocktails, which would have been a great aperitif prior to and with the appetizer actually arrived shortly after the main meal arrived. Although our seating was better, trying to wade through the tables and chairs to get to the bathroom was annoying. This place is VERY popular, but in reality, the crowded nature takes away from the experience both in atmosphere and service. It's a good alternative if our preferred choices are unavailable, but it will remain a second-tier choice until the systemic issues are solved.
