Casual, coastal restaurant in the North Loop. Reservations taken for dining room only, patio seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a current partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild caught or farm raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

Our server was practically not available. I don’t know if he had too many tables or was distracted but we were not checked in at all and had to wait excessively long for drinks. First time i haven’t been happy with the service . Everything else was great.

Could be cool bar to hang out in; music, games, etc. But, fish and chips were, at best, frozen and put in a fryer. Waitress tried to push off white grapefruit was “just the same” as red without the dye. Um, pretty sure grapefruit juice is pink/red all on its own. Just a total miss.

We had a reservation & wete seated promptly. I was a bit rattled by the valet, as he handed me a ticket, but was a 3rd party not related to the restaurant (as is common in MSP) & I'm always wondering if I'm giving the keys to someone stealing my car. He was so nice & did a quick & fantastic job. Our server, Carl, was informative. Our meals were hit & good. My friend started w/a salad, had the cioppino, & cheesecake. I made a lobster boil with sides & butter sauce. I'm a MD girl & was surprised there was no Old Bay on the table, but Carl brought me some. The food for the price was good compared to all of the food you get & it's the same cost as the signature lobster roll.

The warm lobster roll was not worth $30. An the linguini with clams was swimming in cream sauce. Waaay tooo much sauce.

Outstanding food and service! It’s the best place to go for Jambalaya and Lobster Rolls! Prices are a little higher, but moderate as far as North Loop restaurants go. Great outdoor seating and a perfect place to hook up with friends for the lobster / guacamole with chips!

We enjoyed our meal of a Connecticut lobster roll and lobster mac-n-cheese, on the patio, before a Twins game. Drinks and food were both excellent!
