Casual, coastal restaurant in Bloomington. Reservations are taken for the dining room only, patio seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that the appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as in any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild-caught or farm-raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long-term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

We had a great meal! The wait staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The kitchen was slow so dinner took a while. Not problematic but good to know if you’re on a tight timeframe.

Food was extremely bad and overpriced for a seafood restaurants. Our dozen oysters were the smallest i ever saw. The one thing i was happy with was the dervice by Felipe.

We had a great time celebrating my husbands birthday. The patio was comfortable and not too crowded, we could hear the music that was being played inside through speakers outside, which wasn’t too loud-we could still hold conversations comfortably. The staff was attentive and helpful with our questions. They brought a little birthday cheesecake with a candle for my husband! We had never been here before, but we will definitely be back!

I blame it on myself not to look at the menu for Crawfish week - there no entrees that had crawfish except for the boil. I should have left when I saw it since I was disappointed…but stayed and enjoyed something else
