Casual, coastal restaurant in Bloomington. Reservations are taken for the dining room only, patio seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that the appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as in any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild-caught or farm-raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long-term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

Our waitress was outstanding, not only an excellent server but kind and compassionate as well. We were there for a birthday and had a lovely time.

We have been to Smack Shack many times. After Covid the quality of the dishes seems to have deteriorated. The change in the mussel recipe is terrible and my husband had Vongole (clams & pasta) it was very bland no zip to either meal. Very disappointed. Don’t know when I’ll return.

3 of us ordered steak. I forced half of it down. the two others barely ate it. the taste was so gross. I also got a stomach ache afterwards. Complained about it.

Sadly the scallop dish had only 5 scallops and they were small. It was mostly Brussel sprouts. The lobster our mom and aunt ordered was ok (tails) but the claws were severely overcooked and had no flavor and texturally were like eating a bad energy bar. Not impressed at all. I didn't rate this as low as I feel it deserves only because the server was awesome and I have enjoyed the food in the past. Disappointed.

We went for the first time to celebrate our granddaughter’s 15th birthday. We all absolutely loved it! The ambiance is great and the food is wonderful!

We had a great meal! We had one of the weekly specials, three preparations of lobster. The three were creative, including one that featured lobster and tarragon inside a deepfried casing,, which demonstrated that tarragon is a delicious herb with lobster, a beautifully prepared lobster tail and a delicious fettucini with lobster and garlic. Our server was superb. And the casual environment makes it a great place to drop in after work.

First time in..it was pretty good for Minnesota seafood restaurant. They said they were out of some seafood for my dish and substituted other food...added shrimp vs sea scallops. The flavor was very good. The presentation was ok...very clean looking. Our server seemed to be all over the place from barback to server.I..had to get his attention for things we needed. I will be back and assume this was a one-off experience. I really want to love this place...and bring two wallets.
