A charming village pub nestled in the heart of West Hanningfield on the unspoiled greenbelt of the Essex city, Chelmsford.     Better than any Christmas lunch I’ve had anywhere. My husband & I have eaten in top rate restaurants for Christmas & all year round. Christmas 2024 was one of our best for food, service & ambience. The pub was decorated to perfection.

    This pub is fast becoming a firm favourite - every time we go , they are so friendly and accommodating ! We have been this afternoon - Christmas Eve and just for drinks - and they were happy for us to do that, even though some pubs would insist on meals . The decoration is fabulous and we had a great time !

    Had a lovely meal this evening. Served by super staff who obviously enjoy what they are doing. The pub is beautifully decorated with a fabulous festive vibe Would recommend and will go back soon

    We were originally put on a table that wasn’t in the main area of the pub. We asked if we could be moved to the main area of the pub which they were able to do really quickly. We were so pleased that we asked as the ambiance was lovely. All the staff were attentive and the food was delicious and plentiful. We had the Christmas festive menu. We have eaten here a couple of times previous to this and are never disappointed. Thank you again.

    Such a warm friendly welcome, even though we had never eaten there before. Great food, fabulous service, beautifully decorated for Christmas.

    We had a lovely lunch at The Ship today. The pub decor for Christmas was absolutely beautiful. A lovely fire was blazing and we ate upstairs in the dining area, which was cosy and private. The food and service were excellent.
