Hiraeth; a term unique to Wales and Welsh culture, an intangible pull on the heart that conveys a deep sense of belonging, the desire to return to the place of one’s birth, to come home. For The Shed Restaurant and Executive Chef Jonathan Woolway, our place in the world is happily Swansea.
Composed along the expanse of Swansea Bay, flanked by the Gower Peninsula and Brecon Beacons, within striking distance of the fertile valleys, coastal plains and farmland of West Wales, the Waterfront City of Swansea sits at the beating heart of nature’s larder. Bounties of the season from land, sea and pasture are at our fingertips.
Our daily changing menus reflect a constant creative evolution, making use of local produce at the very place and moment of their seasonal prime. This begins in the kitchen and is realised at the table; Egalitarian, convivial and accessible to all. Full in heart and generous of spirit.

Really lovely lunch using fantastic local produce. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and patient. Will definitely return.

Great to have an option of unusual food. Sardines, quail and skate all delicious. Service very attentive. Empty (Wednesday evening ). We plan to return with friends at a week-end. Can recommend.

Excellent Again at the Shed. Great food, good portions, Perfectly cooked. It is top class cuisine but not Nouvelle French tiny portions - do not over order side dishes. Fish and meat perfect. The staff know about the food and are happy to discuss it. The Olive Oil Parfait dessert split opinion on our table I absolutely level it ( had it here before) My wife found it too rich by a factor of about 100. Without doubt Swansea and Gowers best restaurant.

Lovely welcome from staff and as a lone diner it was so appreciated Excellent menu which again surpassed expectations Definitely value for money I can’t wait to dine there again It was my second visit as a lone diner and when a member of staff remembered me after 6 mths and knew where I had sat before ,that meant everything Diolch Jonathan Woolway for coming back to Swansea St John has lost a treasure 🙋🏻‍♀️but we have gained a Trysor All your staff are amazing 👏👏

Overall a great experience, as the restaurant got busier service standards reduced slightly, but not to a level that was unacceptable or made it less enjoyable. Food was excellent and a good variety of dishes on the menu. The cockle croquettes and sardines were stand out dishes, as well as the dessert.

This is a superb new restaurant, and Swansea is very lucky to have it. Honouring a tradition of cooking - Fergus Henderson’s - whilst contributing and creatively adding local flavour and skill - is what all great art recognises. Bravo.
