Hiraeth; a term unique to Wales and Welsh culture, an intangible pull on the heart that conveys a deep sense of belonging, the desire to return to the place of one’s birth, to come home. For The Shed Restaurant and Executive Chef Jonathan Woolway, our place in the world is happily Swansea.
Composed along the expanse of Swansea Bay, flanked by the Gower Peninsula and Brecon Beacons, within striking distance of the fertile valleys, coastal plains and farmland of West Wales, the Waterfront City of Swansea sits at the beating heart of nature’s larder. Bounties of the season from land, sea and pasture are at our fingertips.
Our daily changing menus reflect a constant creative evolution, making use of local produce at the very place and moment of their seasonal prime. This begins in the kitchen and is realised at the table; Egalitarian, convivial and accessible to all. Full in heart and generous of spirit.

The table, the setting and the staff were very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, couldn’t fault them. But the food was not of the standard I would expect. We always rate a place when we go out to eat, which we do a lot, and unfortunately we wouldn’t rush back to you.

Incredible food! Really friendly and helpful staff who want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. We were that impressed we bought 2x Gift cards for family and friends!

First time at the shed and everything looks good inside, with good numbers of staff, tables well spaced and you can see the kitchen and the chefs. Starters will very good if a tad more expensive than some other restaurant as we have been to. Main courses were all a disappointment, we had three different dishes in our party, with the steak tough, the rabbit dish served on the bone which meant eating the rabbit was a tad more difficult than expected. The plaice dish was not too bad, but the breadcrumb coating a tad too thick. The desserts were good. Overall on first encounter, It would not tempt me back

Our party of three enjoyed the restaurant and found the food excellent, and particularly enjoyed the desserts. We chose a quiet Tuesday night and were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Service was considerate and careful. They were kind enough to turn the music down a little when asked. The music was clearly chosen for a younger crowd, and not what you would normally expect in a fine dining establishment. All in all a very pleasant evening and a fine addition to the Swansea dining scene.

Fuller than usual (on a Saturday night) but still not really filling the space, which is a shame and creates a slightly sterile ambience. The food is always full on and delicious: potted crab, bean stew with snails, chorizo and rabbit, hake with cimi di rapa, slow cooked venison with mash and a big wallop of horseradish. Lovely puds. Good to see the daily specials being crossed of as service proceeded. Interesting wine list. The Cairanne les six is delicious. Staff are attentive but the pace slowed a little as the evening went on. Overall it’s a great place for hearty fare using local ingredients, cooked well and deserves to be fuller. Do have the cockle Croquettes and pig skin with brown sauce whilst you ponder the menu. Both are spot on.

A warm welcome on entering The Shed. Given a choice of table. Our table host Hershey was friendly & attentive. Drink & food served in a reasonable time. Enjoyed our meals. Good to see local breweries supported. Not rushed throughout our visit & would return again.
