At The River Shack we are not interested in fuss or formalities, we simply want to provide you with delicious food and drink in a relaxed and beautiful setting.

You can dine right by the waters edge on sunny days, shelter in our waterside marquee on rainy ones, or relax by our log burner inside on the cooler days.

The views in themselves are worth the trip, but wait until you try the food! Our menus are creative, seasonal, rustic and delicious.

Along with the rest of our fantastic team, we look forward to meeting you down at the creek!

Location superb. Staff are attentive and friendly. Chef cooks delicious food, with a menu for children. If I had to nit-pick: music was a bit loud. We will be back. 😍

Lovely atmosphere and view of the river. Service understandably rather slow as the venue was very busy, but helpful and friendly. We had a burger, including some delicious, crispy fries, a tomato juice and a lovely glass of chilled rose…all excellent, as were the desserts. We also had a prawn and crab salad, which was unfortunately far too salty for my taste, and I had to leave most of it. Half the cost of the salad was kindly refunded and my comments taken on board, although no one else had complained about the over-salty food, so perhaps it was just me. I would definitely visit again, perhaps in term time when it will be quieter, and avoid the salad!

Great location for a restaurant. Food ok. Service adequate. Pizzas looked good but unfortunately did. It order those. A shame.

Excellent setting looking over the millpond at birds catching fish, and great service. To push the boat out for our wedding anniversary the two of us had a bottle of Sharpham white, some olives, 2 x bouillabaisse, side orders of fries and focaccia (the mains did not come with bread), a glass of orange wine to try and 2 x affogatos which came to £123 without tip for the two of us, and we were full. For a great evening in a very special place, it was worth it, and we went for the most expensive mains and didn't stint on anything. We fed back on the bouillabaisse though as the liquid could have been richer and more flavourful. After we lingered at twilight watching the last of the crabbers on the weir.

We had a lovely outdoor brunch at 10.45before heading out to Kayak down the river. Nice and bustly atmosphere with people having coffee, last of the breakfast bunch eating, families crabbing next to the the indoor/outdoor riverside eatery. Pricing was spot-on for the quality of food, service and pleasant riverside location. The full breakfast was delicious, quality sausages/produce grilled and tasty. The teenagers had the maple syrup coated pancakes with crispy bacon. Staff were warm, friendly and really attentive. Will definitely visit again. A little gem of a place!
